Hi Eaglemom2, Welcome to our group!  I am a school teacher, too.  I just finished my 28th year of teaching.  I'm a Librarian now, so I hope to continue working for at least 2 more years.  My son has been in the Navy for 4 years now and I still remember those weeks when he was in boot camp.  Those were the hardest for me and I'm glad to say it has gotten better since then.  Hardest part was that my son got married 3 weeks before he left for boot camp, so I didn't get to hear from him much while he was in bc - his wife was great, though and kept me informed of all she heard from him.  Now they have our only grandchild and she turns 2 next week.  They are now doing shore duty in Sicily, Italy for the next 3 years.  Thank heavens for Skype!  I am also very thankful for this Navy4moms site.  It helped me get through all those weeks of boot camp and I have made some very close friends in this Ky moms group.  Feel free to lean on us for support because we all know exactly what you're going through.  That's what is so great about this site because we all are in the same boat :-)

I am new to this group.  My son is a SR at bc, he left on May 7th and his PIR is June 28.  I am from Eastern KY and a school teacher.

Finally going to post something here.  My son deployed on his ship the beginning of this month. I'm excited for him and all the adventures that he has had so far and will be having.  He's getting to see some great places before the final destination.  Got to tour his ship before they deployed.....I see now why he has to duck so much going through doors and such.  Still trying to learn the lingo.  Probably a hatch and not a door....charts - not maps; rack - not bed or bunk......

I live in Central KY.

Shelia, that is neat to hear.  I don't know if we can ask in open forum what squadron he is training with but is it the training squadron in JAX?  My son is now flying with the training squadron there.  Congratulations to your son, that is great!  My son maybe one of his AWO's some day.

Shelia, You are right - this Ky Navy Moms group has gotten very quiet and not many posts (me included).  I don't usually like to use excuses, but it has been very hard for me to adjust this past month with the sudden death of my Mom.  To make things even harder, my son, his wife and 22 month old daughter (my only granddaughter) arrived in Italy on March 13th and my mom died on March 14th.  Needless to say, it has been so very hard for me to have my son and his family so far away for the next 3 years.  Thank heavens for Skype!  We at least get to "visit" with them at least a couple times each week.

I would ask each of you to pray for my Navy son and his family.  He just found out last week that he will be deployed for 4 months to Djibouti, Africa beginning in September.  Prayers are what is getting us through all this right now!

I would LOVE for us to have a Ky Navy Moms' get-together and hope it will be SOON!

Blessings,  Lisa

Hi NurseNavyMom, sorry, I don't know what DS stands for but I am assuming our sailor.  Our son left home June 20 last year.  He is currently still in training as an Aircrewman.  He has now made it to Jacksonville and should finally graduate Sept this year.  He is AWO- acoustic training on the P3s.  I see your sailor is a Flight Officer, that's great!  What plane will he fly on?

Does anybody know if I buy a NEX gift card for my son if it will be something I can reload?  I want to get him one to use while he's in Italy for the next 3 years, but I don't know if I will be able to reload it from here?

Or do any of you have a suggestion for a card I can get him that I can reload from here while he's in Italy?
