Hi All - I haven't been on here lately either. We flew out to San Diego to spend Christmas with our son. I didn't want him to be alone on Christmas. Since it was the holidays he only had duty on the 24th. and the 27th. so we had the rest of the week with him after his duty days. It was a shock coming home to the cold after being in sunny CA.
jboysmom- The story also brought tears to my eyes. I didn't realize how much the little things could mean to our military guys/girls until my son joined the Navy. My eyes have been opened a lot wider now.
Our son was deeply touched Christmas morning while he was on watch at the guard station when a little girl came running up to the door of the guard station carrying 2 gifts. She handed them to my son and the other person on watch and said "My family thanks you for standing watch on Christmas". Then she ran back to get in the car with her mom and they drove off. The gift bag contained homemade cookies, a pair of gloves, hand warmers and chap stick. That meant so much to my son and I appreciate that family's kindness.
Hi to all Ky Moms, It has been a great Christmas for our family as well. We traveled down to Norfolk late on Christmas Eve and drove all night to get ahead of the snow that was hitting Kentucky. We drove all night and arrived in Norfolk early on Christmas morning. Our son had duty/watch all Christmas Day, but he called to invite us to eat Christmas dinner on the ship with him. What a treat - to eat Christmas dinner on board his ship with all of us together! Then we got to hang out on the ship with him for 3 hours in his shop where he works. Great memories.
Norfolk got 15 inches of snow, so we got a white Christmas here, too. This morning we are heading to Virginia Beach to take pictures of the 18 inches of snow they got. Seems wierd to be taking pictures on the beach and it is full of snow! This will be a Christmas to remember!
Happy New Year to all of you!
Dolphin - Congratulations to your son. I hope the move goes smoothly.
That's great news, Dolphin! I prayed for your son last night and in my morning prayers today. So glad things worked out for him. Safe travels to you as you travel down for his graduation and as you move them to NY. I will continue to keep you, your son and your family in my prayers.
Hi Dolphin,
I'm doing great just been busy with the holidays and traveling. My son's ship got into port in SD two days ago and he called to say it was a lot better being out on the seas then in port. He stayed busy while they were out and he didn't get sea sick at all.
Merry Christmas everyone.
