I wanted to share a great song/video for all of you. It was written by a music teacher and sung by 3rd graders at their school. Sure does make me proud of my sailor son! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pfBUUZNbFM

I wanted to share with all of you a website I found where you can buy inspirational cards to send to those in the military. The site is: http://untiltheyallcomehomemmc.com/

I bought a box of the cards and they are great! Part of the proceeds from these cards go to the USO, which also supports our troops.

I found some military cards at a Hallmark Gold Crown store, but I like the ones from the website better because they are so inspirational.

Enjoy!

Hi KY moms! It's been a while since I've been on this group. I actually forgot I had joined the group. I was spending just about every available moment on the boot camp mom's group all summer while my son was in Great Lakes. Now I'm on the Pensacola group because my son graduated GL on Aug. 7th. He still hasn't started A-school, but is enjoying going to the beach on the weekends. He has duty all this Labor Day weekend, so we haven't gone down to visit him yet. His new wife will go to visit him Oct. 9-11 and then my husband and our other 2 sons will go visit our son the following weekend, Oct. 16-18. I can't wait!

I haven't been able to be on N4Ms as much since I started back to work on Aug. 12th. I'm a librarian at an elementary school in Lexington, but I commute from where I live in Lawrenceburg, Anderson County. The start of a school year is always very busy, but things are finally starting to slow down. Yippee, because I can now get back on N4Ms site more often!

PIR/graduation in GL on Aug. 7th was awesome. I don't think I've ever felt more pride than I did on that day! I really like that we can finally have more contact with our son now that he's out of boot camp. Of course, he mainly communicates with his wife, but I do get a few text messages or to chat with him on Facebook a few times a week. I'll take whatever I can get!

I was catching up on all your comments and I'm really interested in those of you who have sailors that have been in for years now. How do you handle the miles of separation and not being able to see them for long periods of time? I'm still a newbie at all things Navy and I just don't know how to handle my son being gone so far away and possibly that he'll be overseas! I'm very proud of him and his decision and am excited for all the travels he'll get to take. I just miss him so very much.

Sorry for such a long post, but I was excited to have time to get back with you KY moms again! Let's keep in touch!

Shannon - I admire your daughter so much for her willingness to serve in the Navy, especially since she's a single parent. Her desire to do something so noble and brave is awesome! She's very fortunate to have you and your husband there to take care of her daughterr while she's away.

I know how you feel about missing her so much and I get tears flowing all the time; just by walking past my son's bedroom, hearing a certain song on the radio, driving by where he used to work, fixing food for supper that were his favorites and especially when I go to the mailbox and still no letter from him. My husband just doesn't understand and says "Our son's just in Chicago - no big deal". It is a big deal, I tell him.

I live in Anderson County and work in Lexington. My son will graduate boot camp on Aug. 7th. Only 30 more days! Wow, your daughter's graduation is just 10 days away. Hang in there and all of us "crazy" moms will make it thorugh all this togehter. I'm so thankful for this Navy4moms site.

Ky Mom, next time you're in Lebanon you'll have to come eat at Henning's! I'm a waitress there.

Well, I'm just tickled pink to find a Ky Moms group on here. I have two Sailor sons. My youngest is in CT studying to be a radio tech. My oldest is a SK on the USS Nimitz. I live in Springfield myself. I look forward to getting to know ya'll!
