depends where your flighing but i found southwest has very reasonable pricing if you catch them on the right day, plus free checked bags. Check their website. Prices change daily but that goes for all flights. Id also check all the regular places like orbiz, travelocity, priceline etc

Sounds nice. Thanks for the info. Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get airline tickets is?

Yes, there is. Just google family friendly events in Hampton Roads 2011 and it will pop a schedule. Another thing that my husband and I like to do is stop at the visitor centers around town and grab brochures regarding to events that look fun. The Norfolk Botanical Gardens are great to go to with a stroller and just walk around. There is also the Zoo in Norfolk, and the Living Museum in Newport News. Another great thing to do outside of Norfolk is the National Zoo in D.C. Its huge AND its free. Plus its such an easy day trip. And of course you can always take a stroller around D.C. I lived outside of D.C. for 16 years, and it was always fun day trip for my parents and us kids.

Is there a lot to do in Norfolk for families? We have an eight month old baby and here in Pensacola there is really nothing for families to do.

If you google weekend events in Hampton Roads 2011, its gives you a list of what all is going on certain weekends, such as festivles and concerts. Also, D.C. and Mt. Vernon are worth the trip if you're into history. And to the west is the Shenandoah Valley, which is fun for camping, hiking, kayaking if you're the more outdoorsy type.

@CCity - Ghent is a good Norfolk neighborhood, very close to the base and to Old Dominion University, good shopping and restaurants.  Some very cute houses for rent there on Craigslist right now.  Also check Realtor.com for rentals in Norfolk zip 23505, there are some there too - this one close to the water on River Road (you can see on Google Earth), and this one on Fayton 140 Fayton, for example and both close to NOB (River Rd home less than 6 miles).

Really? So no matter what it takes a while to get to the base. Not looking forward to the traffic. Do you like living in the military housing? We are trying to find a cute house there but I cannot find anything so we are thinking about going with military housing.

Thank you for the information. Is it far from the base?
