My 20 yr old son just enlisted this past Thursday after a year long waiver process.  He's a Navy Nuke.  I was surprised that his boot camp date was so far away...4/9/13?  His recruiter is putting in a packet to get his date moved up.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi.  My son had to wait ten months.  He signed up last August and left May 25.  He graduated from college and wanted to go in as an officer but it would have taken almost two years before an officer slot opened.  They do ship you early if a position opens.  They offered my son a eariler position a few months earlier then his ship date but it fell through.  Tell your son to take advantage of this wait time to make some money and preparing himself mentally and physically.  My son played hockey in high school and college and he said none of that adequately prepared mentally-physically wasn't as much an issue, but he said he could have been better conditioned.    Also, does he know how to swim, my son many of the people in his division that didn't pass the first fitness test failed because of the swin test, second was running.  Let me know if you need anymore information.  I can tell you alot of things to do once he gets there.

My son went to MEPS in September and goes to bc 4/8/13 (7 month wait).  They will be there together.  I get the impression it all depends on what school you go to.  My son is in SPACT.  Tried to go earlier but no luck.

My daughter is leaving for boot camp 04/08/2013

Thank you!  Congratulations to your son too!  I don't know about him but my daughter is counting the days...of course I am too (but probably not in the same exact way...lol).  I am very excited for her and what her future holds, but will miss her terribly.  She has began to sort through all of her things and planning to have a garage sale before she leaves.
