Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My son leaves Thursday from Boston. It went by far too fast and it's far too real now. :(

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son leaves 2 weeks from today--eeeek!!  From the time he signed until the time he leaves was only 89 days and it has gone by so fast.  I can't imagine how fast these next two weeks will go.  I'm excited for him, but starting to freak out just a little inside! :-)  I'm going to enjoy every minute I can!!

Source of Inspiration

My son has graduated but I wanted to let you know my son’s inspiration that helped him get through basic training.  Before he left for Great Lakes we had a combination high school graduation and “Bon Voyage” party with a navy theme.  My husband ordered a custom banner from ETSY that had an anchor on it and his name.  During the party all of his friends used a permanent marker to sign the banner and added notes of congratulations and encouragement.  The next day I took the banner to our “church family” soon the banner was almost completely covered.  When my son called me from basic training before battle stations he asked if we could bring the banner with us.  He said that when things got tough during training he would think of all the people that signed that banner and he knew everyone was so proud of him.  We could not bring the banner into the graduation ceremony hall, but it was proudly hung on the hotel room door all weekend!  Just thought I’d pass on the story.  My husband got the banner from here: http://customribbons.etsy.com

It's getting a bit too real now. Going away party was last weekend and now my daughter is packing up her room!! Two weeks from today she will be arriving at Great Lakes. Yikes! Six months ago when she signed it stemmed so far away. We had. Great party with all her friends and family. I made Blue candles with navy emblem and anchors that we gave out, had an awesome cake made, wish I could figure out how to upload a picture. I also put out notecards and paper for people to write (or for he younger cousins etc to draw pictures) encouraging notes that I will send out randomly. My daughter is crossing off days on a wall calendar....

Bears Mom my son also leaves on the 15th
Comment by LeslieC on March 25, 2014 at 2:06pm

you're welcome Bears'Mom!  Glad you get some extra time with your son.  Mine only has 12 days left (technically 11 since he will go to the hotel the night before he has to be at MEPS)  I am finding "letting go" is going to be harder than I thought :/
