Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My child too is counting down the seconds until he leaves... I however would prefer to stop the hands of time! We are busy planning his anchors aweigh party for the 12th. I plan to have guests write him a note while at the party.  I will send these to him at random times while he is away in training. What other creative ideas have you all thought of to encourage or make special the send off??

@Matt's.Mom -I had to laugh about the countdown app.I think everyone has it! It warmed my heart to read about Matt's excitement. My son is just as excited and does not hesitate to remind me just how many days, hrs, min.,and sec. He has left (as if I didn't already know).

@Bears'Mom my SR leaves the 1st too! We are like you, sad and excited all at once! He has been a DEPper since 6/13 so lots of time to prepare. But still not ready :( Anyone else leaving Houston, TX on 4/1?

My son's anchors aweigh party was great.  Lots of family and friends came to wish him well.  The love and support is overwhelming.  It was a busy busy weekend with preparations on Friday and then of course the party on Saturday.  We had a house full from 1 in the afternoon till 1 in the am.  Needless to say this momma was tired!  Sunday was time for church.  Once we came home I sat down to read his cards and couldn't even make it through the first one.  Had to put them down and walk away.  Had a few other things to do to keep me busy but once the house was quiet it hit me.  I just looked at my husband and said I can't believe he is leaving and boy did the tears start rolling.  I am going to savor these next 13 days and spend as much time with him as I can before he goes. Praying for strength, "letting go" is harder than I imagined. I need a slow motion button so I can slow these next two weeks down.  :/

For those of you who haven't done so yet (or lately), be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and start checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) beginning with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (there are some changes at the bottom that some of you need to make) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Camsproudmom,
My youngest graduated from boot camp 2/28, so I have a little head start on what to expect when the older one goes in April 9th.  They get a phone card when they get to boot camp.  We sent a Walgreen's phone card after he called the 1st time, because I didn't want him to run out of minutes.  He did end up needing the additional one.  We got 2 calls before the "I'm a sailor" call.  They can buy additional ones at the NEX, but we sent it anyway.  I am going to send the phone card up front with my second recruit.

jlpmom3 thank you, I enjoyed painting it and I love it hanging on my wall.  Makes a great decoration for his anchors awigh party. Matt's.mom I have an app on my phone too except it doesn't excite me :(   Yes we do need to bond and support one another!

My son leaves April 9.  He has an app on his phone counting down the time like a kid counting down to Christmas.  His excitement makes it a bit easier for me, but it's going to be so strange once he's gone!!  I see several others leaving within a few days of each other. We need to start bonding now ladies!! :)

LeslieC....I recognize your anchor photo from the fb page!  I love love, love that painting!
