Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Welcome Steh! Well I can tell you the first 72 hours or so are very tough on them.
They go into a big barracks type room and wait. Little sleep. They don't get their bunks right away till all the guys arrive and they start assigning div. My SIL was in the Navy and I got more info than i wanted to know as a mom.
"Please just tell me he'll be all right i asked" of course he will- "i was"he said.
SIGH.
But I couldn't agree with you more- I started praying for Paul months before he left and now i add names to my list of those I meet on here. The Lord will watch over these guys. And they Navy has a large investment in them.
Next step is waiting for the 'box'. I know everyones experience is so different but I was a mess for 24 hours until I got his letter. Not that his letter reassured me a whole lot but when I saw that grad. date WOOHOO I could put it on the calendar.
Check in here with us Steph as these ladies are awesome!~

wglover - this week/weekend may be tough as you see things that remind you of her (for me it was even little things like a pair of my son's dirty socks laying on the floor!!) but as time goes on it DOES get better. I have found more peace in the last few days - and I think having "the box" and "the letter" arrive and done with helped me. Knowing those were coming and WHEN?? was making me more anxious.
Just know that this is a "self paced" experience and you will go through it YOUR WAY. Let people on here know if you need to be reassured or lifted up - this is a terrific place for that. You are safe and understood here! :)

I hope the swearing in goes well for both of you.

Have a terrific day and hold every moment and memory with her close to your heart!

Ok Moms of April 6th shippers, we made it thru the first week! joshuasmom, our son, David, is in the same ship and division. His recruiter didn't tell me to put his last name first so I hope we don't get our letters back! He also gave me the street, city and zip. I have a co-worker who's son is shipping in Dec so I'm filling him in on what to expect. It helps to be able to help someone else thru the transition. I also took the Razorback magnates off of my desk at work and put up the Navy decal I got from the recruiter. It's a mom thing! Since my dad had been Navy during the Korean War I'm feeling a little closer to his spirit now and also to that of my grandmother. I took so much of their lives for granted, as kids will do, but now I have some different insights! Dad went thru GL too so I'm wondering if David is feeling a little closer to his Papa or if he's too dog tired to appreciate it yet!

Yep....
I hope your letter comes! Let us know!
I guess my box has arrived - a bit concerned about actually seeing it. Will try to breath and pray my way through opening it.

this is goona sound stupid but what is SR????
Comment by Mar ProudSailorMom on April 13, 2010 at 11:45am
JoshuasMom - the address will be more than what you have!
it should be...
SR then LAST NAME, First Name, Middle initial
Ship.... Div....
___ Drive or Road (ours is 3405 Sailor Drive)
Great Lakes, IL 60088

When you get your "form letter" it will have the FULL address on it! But I hope this helps you out some!

All the best!

Moonblossom - yes my son will arrive at BC Thursday. I am so excited and so anxious at the same time! I try to occupy my mind so I don't have to think about taking him tomorrow to the recruiter but I'm not doing a very good job with it. How are you doing?
