DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in April

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Website: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

wglover ~ Our MEPS (Cleveland, OH), has the swear in for the Reservists when they sign their contract. They will actually tell you this when you check into the site on the ship out day. The last day of MEPS (ship out day), is when the other recruits swear in before they depart. They informed all, so the Reservists also could stand in for a photo opp. Have you visited the MEPS website? I have added the link below. You can find good information. : ) ~ kk

Wglover - the moms I have spoken to so far are saying that their son/daughter both gets sworn in and then ships out that same day but will really have to defer to one of the moms with more knowledge about the process.

LorifromMaryland: Glad you found us. Strenght in numbers! Glad you are going to MEPS, its something that we are not going to but Chris feels better about it this way and I guess, hes right. This gives him a little time before he has to be sent off to prepare. But, I am glad you are going as I am sure that it will be so worth it. And give you more time with him before he leaves. So...with the words from Dori (and provided by KathyJean), lets all remember: "..."If you don't let him have any adventures, he won't have any adventures and that wouldn't be any fun."

Jakesmom: I thought of you all day today knowing that you would be dropping off Jake today. How did it go....or I guess I know. Just know that he will get through this and it is only for a relatively short time in regards to once he is out. And it WILL be worth it. Stay tough and let us know when you hear from Jake. I have had an up and down day myself and am dreading tomorrow. We will not be going to the swearing in and airport because I think that I would be too emotional for it and it gives Chris time to prepare... I will keep you all in my thoughts as we all "walk this road" together and let you know what tomorrow brings for us. Take care everyone.

In just a few short hours we take our oldest son to the recruiting office for his departure for Milwaukee tonight so he can report to the MEPS center in the morning. It feels like the first day of kindergarten as I dropped him off at his class room and intrusted his teacher to watch over him. To all the Moms who's children are leaving them soon my prayers will include you and your kids to have the strength and courage we need. What a proud day to send our kids off to serve our country but also a sad day because we will miss and worry about them so............

Happy Easter to all of you. I'm new to this site but my son has been in DEP since May and is also shipping out on April 6th. We're sending him off from Fayettteville, AR to Little Rock tomorrow morning. This isn't our first send off as he's been at the University of Arkansas. We live in Tulsa and dropped him off five years ago to join the Razorback band. He's fully independent now but this is still a big change for us. We had pictured that he would stay in the OK/AR area after graduating. Serving his country is something that he has always felt he should do and is following in his grandfather's footsteps by choosing the Navy. Even though he's now a young man I've been struggling with his decision this past year. By chance my 2yr old grandson asked to watch Finding Nemo the other evening. I was hit by something Dori the fish tells Marlin, Nemo's overprotective father..."If you don't let him have any adventures, he won't have any adventures and that wouldn't be any fun." As I send our son off tomorrow for his new life I will keep Dori's wise words in my heart. Then when we get back home to Tulsa I will toast all of us new Navy Moms with a Bailey's! Bless you all and your sailors!
