DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in April

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Website: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Thanks to all the moms that have been posting all your insight into what we can expect. We are down to 2 days now and it is becoming harder and harder. I seem to be always close to tears, if not crying. You and all the info have been a tremendous source of support and comfort in knowing how to prepare and what to expect. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just a little FYI.... The RDCs have a mission (the success of their job). Their mission is the progression of their SRs. The Navy spends a lot of money per day on each SR. The USN wants quality. The RDCs want your SRs to succeed. With this said, RDCs have tasks to complete AND schedules to follow. Within this criteria, they know how much IT (intense training) is needed, what skills need to be learned/taught, etc. to successfully run their division to PIR. Included are the allowances of phone calls, visits to the Rickie NEX, and letter writing. These can be limited based on the progression, and yes - sometimes the attitudes of the SRs within a division. Therefore, not ALL divisions are run the same. You can't compare the number or length of telephone calls, letters, etc. The best advice for following the flow of your SR's division is to join that group.

My comment has been, "You eventually forget that long and painful labor of childbirth. They DO NOT forget boot camp."

Be strong! Your SR needs all the encouragement you can give them. It was all I could do to hide ALL tears in letters and phone calls. : ) ~ kk

This is all REALLY new to me. I've never posted on a wall, much less been around military lingo....I have a son leaving for Great Lakes 4/15. Anyone else out there from Texas? Or have one that will be a Seabee and going straight to Port Huemene after "BC"?

Thanks MamaBearkk, Hearing this makes me feel a whole lot better however, it would have been nice to save him from getting any shots - just in case he would have a reaction to them but has never had one before. I am almost afraid to ask - what it the peanut butter shot? Haven't heard of that one before.

Jill - Standing Proud Navy Mom ~ You do not need their immunization records. My son's Recruiter(s) never even mentioned them. It is helpful if they are afraid of shots. My son's shot record saved him 4+ shots - he would know he was in the line to get them - and was told why he did not get them. He likes shots - so he was a little less thankful of me including them - LOL The Navy will fill in the blanks as they want him to be sea worthy. Everyone gets the peanut butter shot (I believe). : ) ~ kk

Thanks Jessica: I never heard of it either until just yesterday. Chris's recruiter never mentioned it and I was just doing some searching and saw a couple of sites (not on N4M) elsewhere where they said to have them. Whew! You made me feel better, I truly believe I am beginning to crumble!! Thanks for the input.

Hi All: Seems to be a heck of a time to ask but does anyone know what happens if you can not get your son's immunization records. Did not know about it until just yesterday that he will need them and his doctor's office has sent his records to storage, his high school is on spring break...and don't seem to have them anywhere. Is this a problem? Do they really need them? And if so, will they just have to have the shots all over (ouch X?) . If anyone knows, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

john n. and mom ~ You should also talk to your recruiter to see if you can recruit more family members to join N4Ms. You will meet more Navy family members the day they leave (airport and USO). : ) ~ kk
