Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to  Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Momof9, check in the group for your recruit's "A" School to know how the phases work there. Most have to go through INDOC before being allowed Liberty off base and sometimes there are some other requirements. Yes, if he is not in class or on duty then you may be able to see him on base before he has Phased up and is allowed Liberty off base.

Just thought of another question. Does anyone know about how long it would be after arriving at A school a sailor would get liberty? We live a few hours away from his assigned A school and was wondering if we would be able to take his siblings to see him for a weekend shortly after he arrived at school.

Antsmom, that was an awesome way to spend his last month! Our children can totally rock our worlds when they show their love for us moms and their family. As moms of many we don't get quite as many opportunities to be grown ups (:. It is fun when we get that special time with our big ones. (: My sailor was the same way about the swimming. He isn't a fish either but I really think he can hold his own. Hoping he will have confidence in himself. Super job on your sailor's running time. I know we worked that last month and my poor fella couldn't get below 9.16 for 1.5 miles. Hoping with not having run for a week he hasn't lost any of his time. I just hope he will trust the Lord to see him through and not get discouraged.

***NOT worried about running

Comment by antsmom on April 11, 2015 at 3:18pm

Momof9,

During my Spring Break in March from work and school, I told my son that just him and I would go on a vacation anywhere he wanted to go. Told him I would take him on a cruise, week at the beach, whatever he wanted. He said I want to go see my sister. (My 21 year old daughter lives in Oregon for school) Wow, did this bring tears to my eyes... My son quit his job a month before leaving...and spent a month vacationing... San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas...enjoying his time with his friends and his girlfriend...So him and I drove 8 hours to go see his sister...we spent the week there and it was one of the best times I've ever had...We have 7 children, so I don't get to do "adult" things with the kids...So we went out and had a great time...I thanked him so much for making the time to spend with us...

It's funny because he has a best friend who tried to join with him...they have been inseparable since 4th grade and they are both 23...His friend could not join because he is not a US citizen... But went to school in the US, got a college degree in the US, and pays US taxes... I think my son was more upset about leaving his "brother" than his girlfriend...

My son was worried about the running (1.5 miles in 7:50!!) he was worried about the swimming, because he will have a lot due to being Aircrew...He can swim, but he is no frogman.
