Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

mrboysmom--I got my box as well on Tuesday! I wonder if they are in the same division! His recruiter told me he was in division 191 ship 11. Lemme know as soon as you hear! I am anxiously awaiting some type of something from him! Hopefully the form letter comes soon.
@ Andrea Nicole no other phone call except the scripted arrival call from BC from my SR whom left on April 1st. It probably be the 3wks they mention would they will call next, so all the SR can separate themselves from family & friends and focus on becoming a Sailor. "the box" arrived this past Tuesday and now waiting for the form letter with writing address and PIR date.
Andrea, this early any calls would be for information. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.
Hi Everyone - I was at MEPS and the airport all day yesterday with my son & family! It was such an emotional roller coaster! His swearing in was beautiful and once we got to the airport they were kind enough to give us gate passes and then we were able to wait in a military lounge for the duration (about 6 hours). His flight was delayed due to inclement weather in Chicago so we got to spend a bit more time with him. He was so nervous - which made me upset since I realized that I can't see how he is doing once he is there. He text once he got to Chicago and was on the bus but then said he couldn't text anymore. We received his call around 11:30pm (10:30pm CT). Very quick and to the point. I miss him like crazy! I can't wait for the letter so I can start writing him!
Has anyone who had a SL leave on April 1st gotten a phone call yet? Besides the 30 second phone call the day they get to RTC?
Yes, it could go either way with 8 or 9 Fridays, you'll just have to wait. I hope he has 9 Fridays.
I teach Read 180 which is a reading intervention for 4-5-6...I taught 2nd for 10 years and 5th for 3 years... This is my first year teaching Read 180... I am getting my PhD in educational psychology, so I am also a part-time school psychologist...I will be finished with my PhD this summer!!!
And really if I have to take days off I will!!! I won't be missing graduation for anything...It's just nice if there isn't a conflict :) Mattsmom, Weird to end on a Saturday, but last year I ended on a Monday...
Actually the 9 Fridays would be June 5...but I've also read that sometimes if they shipped early in the week it could be the week before...Not stressing on it, I'm just an organizer and like to have a plan :) June 5 is also nice because it's my dad's birthday and he will be attending graduation with me...He and my son are very close.. Would be a nice present!
I hope things work out for you, antsmom, but if not, then some sub will enjoy the last day or two of school with your students so you can be in GL. I don't think your administrator is going to deny the personal day/s for you to be with your new Sailor.
Usually there are only 9 Fridays this time of year, but storms sometimes change that, but sometimes it's just how things are based on the number of RDC's who will be available or other things.
