Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I have not received any phone calls either although when he made is 15 second call he said he should be able to call in about two weeks. It will two weeks this coming tuesday.
Thanks proudnavymom........going to go on the no news is good news and try to be patient. Hopefully I will receive the letter sometime this week so I know for sure the actual date so I can start to make arrangements. Thanks for your support and prayers. I sincerely appreciate it. God Bless you and yours.
:)
I plan on doing just that Moonwillow. Especially if I haven't received "the letter" by then. We have been in touch through email ......he even sent 2 SR's to my job on Friday to say hello to me. Thought that was so sweet. Of course I cried. This waiting and not knowing how he is with this knee injury is making me more anxious......trying so hard to stay positive but I have to admit .....it's kinda hard.
Ladyrocker, I do not have any experience with this but maybe you call his recruiter on Monday and ask him.
Well I thought I was one hot mess yesterday....turns out today was worse! Got a call from his dad saying that Joey called him today which I find very strange. Our first call was when he got there safe (the scripted 15 second call) and he said he'd call in about 3 weeks. He is only there since the 22nd of April.(just under 2 weeks) It was a fast call him saying how much he missed and loved us. He said he hurt his knee in BC but his dad said it didn't sound like much of an emergency. He's one tough kid and very athletic so I can't imagine how this happened or how bad his knee actually is. He did say that he should be able to write to us soon. Now I don't know if this is "the letter" with the PIR date or what. He said his PIR date was tentative on June 13th but could be later depending I am assuming because of the knee injury. Everyone I have became friend with on N4M's who's SR's left the same day already received their "kids in a box" and "the letter". I am still waiting. I am also concerned with how these other parents got their boxes and letters with a PIR date of June 20th and I haven't received anything about Joey's tentative date on the 13th because it is sooner. I feel so helpless right now. I want to call him or anybody to find out how bad his knee is. He did say he still wants to do this but can't wait til BC is over. That being said just makes me cry. I don't know what to think??? Is it too much for him to handle? stuff like that. He's done his research and watched all the video's on BC and told me "yes Mom I know I can do this? Does anyone know where I can find out how my son is? Is this normal? Will his PIR date be later? Good God I have so many questions and don't know if I am coming or going. If anyone can help me with all this I'd greatly appreciate it.
Calls are up to the RDC. Some RDC's schedule one every week. Others don't. Some RDC's will reward a good inspection or earning a flag with calls and sometimes a division is an honor division (earning lots of flags) and yet still does not get many calls. There is no set number of calls. Most will get the "I'm here!" call upon arrival, an "I'm still alive!" call sometime between weeks 2 and 4, and the "I'm a Sailor!" call in the last week, but even those calls are not guaranteed as things can happen to prevent one or more of them. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls,
My sailor called yesterday (which was a super nice surprise), but said that he was told he would not be getting any more phone calls until week 7 (he is now in week 3). He did say that his RTC's are nice, so he is hoping he'll get another call between now and then. Does anyone know why this is?
USNwife/momMary,
that's great! How was he? that's good to know mail is coming!!! My daughter said she wrote me lots so I cannot wait! Stalking the mailman is on my agenda too!!!
