DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in April

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I feel you Boboshaw. I'm all about planning too. So not knowing entry single detail up front makes me nervous. But I'll be fine.

It is tricky.  Not sure if same for other moms.  My son doesn't say much about the "plan" or "planning" and I'm all about lists and pre-planning!

Rossena ~ I too have mixed emotions.  So glad he is doing this and so proud.  Also some anxiety as well; not really about him being in the service, but about this new positive life changing challenge for him.

Rossena it's definitely a different type of emotion. And I'm torn everyday but I'll proud. Boboshaw I've been getting phone cards, moleskin bandages, and he needed a new watch & wallet. He leaves on his birthday so I'm also getting supplies and planning for his going away/birthday party. And he needs new workout clothes and running shoes. So buying him stuff gives me a chance to baby him a little before he leaves and grow up on me. Lol

If he has an AV contract instead, then this is the info you need.
The Rating Information card for Avionics Technician (AV) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/av.pdf.
Join Avionics Technicians (AV) Moms, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola and check out Airman Family and Friends.
AV Sailors attend common basic electronics training, after which they are selected for either the Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE) rating (Aviation Electronic - AE and https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ae.pdf) or the Aviation Electronics Technician (AT) rating (Aviation Electronics Technician (AT) and https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/at.pdf). (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)
Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR, but may fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues. Plan to leave on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
AT’s will be assigned to Aviation Electronics Technician-Organizational (AT-O) or Aviation Electronics Technician-Intermediate (AT-I). The assignment to AE or AT may be made prior to shipping to the RTC for some. For those with an AT contract prior to BC, the assignment to AT-O or AT-I is made soon after arriving at Pensacola. There is more info on AT-O and AT-I in http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398

http://navl.p.Hi Boboshaw67! Welcome! My son leaves for BC April 27th and he's also in the A-PACT program so he'll be going to Pensacola as well. And TG means training group. Here is a link to common abbreviations used on this site. http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/what-does-mean-a-gui...

Ooops ~ I think I just deleted my comment.  Okay, my son just enlisted Monday and leaves April 4th for boot camp as Airman Pact then to Pensacola for A-School.  What is TG on here?  How do you know what Div?  He doesn't say to many details!
