This is SO different from sending her off to college.   College I knew I could drive up and have lunch, spend the night.  I knew that she would be home some weekends sleeping in her room and that every holiday she would still be here....this is so very different.  I feel like I am giving this big nasty world my little girl (20 years old mind you) and I don't know when she will be back :(

I feel the same about my son. I am mourning the loss of his carefree days. I KNOW it is the right choice for and a great opportunity, but I worry that he will be overwhelmed.

I'm sure our kids will do fine, but this is TOUGH!

Already had two tear-ups this morning.....I know this is going to get easier....right??????

Same here! One week from today! These last days are a whipping! My son is ready to go!!

I had to concede this morning on packing the room up.  My recruit has moped around about it until she just has NO time to get it done.  I finally told her OK, just go through there and get rid of the obvious, clean clean clean it, and we will deal with the rest of it next time she is home.  Maybe then when she knows where and what she will be doing she will know more what to do with all of it.

This week alone we have her 20th birthday dinner with Grandparents Friday night and she is going to Bass Hall afterwards.  Saturday we are having about 50 friends and family for her Anchors Aweigh/Birthday celebration and then Sunday we are off to MEPS.  I hope that I can hold myself together Monday in front of her but I am seriously doubting I can.  What makes it worse is that all my family and friends think that I am being silly.  I keep hearing she is only going to Boot Camp....it is 9 weeks,,,GEEZ....really people is what I want to yell back at them but I know they won't understand that either!

Thank goodness I have an office that I can shut the door and put the phone on do not disturb cause I know I am really going to need it this week!   Hugs to you all.

We are in Weatherford, just West of Ft Worth.  She is going to see "1964" which is a tribute band to the Beatles.  She loves the Beatles so I thought it would be a nice girly birthday gift before she goes off to be a tough girl :)

I am not so sure that she will be home after A school which is in Pensecola but I really do hate to have her pack everything and then I have to go through it to find what she wants.

I have heard 8-9 weeks just depending on various things.  I would make sure to contact his recruiter.  I have really tried not to bug my daughters poor recruiter to death so that he wouldnt take me out on her but once she leaves that man is going to really dislike me!  lol

Best wishes again to you.  I will probably see you in Dallas on the 8th!  I will be the Mom hanging onto her daughters leg while hysterically crying.  My husband will have me by my ankles and he and my daughter will be rolling their eyes!   I think you had it right in your statement of I think it is harder on the parents than the kids but then again I don't know!

Oh, yay! See you gals at MEPS on the 8th! I will be the small gal in the straightjacket with the annoyed husband!!

hugs~Dale
