My boyfriend and I have been together for a little over two years now. He's always wanted to go into the Navy but things happened after high school that deterred him for a little while.

We've been together, everyday straight for so long now (of course besides when we were at work haha). I've tried since he signed his contract 5/1/13 to prepare myself for this, for this life changing event. But I realized it is harder than ever even possibly anticipated. 5 days have felt like a year lol. But I know it will all be worth it in the end. I just need to continuously work on staying positive and optimistic, especially for my sailor :)

I received my last call Wednesday night around midnight eastern time. When can I expect my first letter? Could it really be three weeks from the day he arrived at RTC?

Anyone with any advice or encouraging words, you are more than appreciated. I have no one to turn to in my life, no one I know has ever gone through what I am experiencing, not even close.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and when you can expect things. Yes, that first "real" letter amy not come for about 3 weeks. He must be in his permanent ship first and can only write on Sundays at first and not until the second (third for some) Sunday. See  Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for more on that.

Be sure to check out the info I have previously given you.

Your recruit (he's not a Sailor yet) will be encouraged to know that you are staying busy and learning about what is going on with him.

Thank you for all of your help, it has been extremely useful and helpful. I am doing a lot of research and trying to plan as far in advance as possible so I can attend his graduation in October, I am estimating if all goes well it will be the 2nd Friday of October. I was wondering if you have any information on travel options. I will be taking Amtrak in from Pennsylvania ( PA to Union Station in Chicago ) My hotel is in Gurnee, IL. Do you know of any public transportation routes that will take me from Union Station to as close to Gurnee as possible? I am looking into it and it's been a bit confusing. I know I'll eventually figure it out, but anyone with first hand experience would be so helpful.

I am writing some letters so I can send them to him once I get his first letter with his address. I am not bombarding him with letters but enough to keep him updated with home so he is stress free as well as happy and encouraged because he knows how much I love him, miss him and support him unconditionally while he is away.

Thanks again for all of your advice and information!

You are very welcome. PIR could be 10/11/2013 or 10/18/2013. It all depends on when his division formed.

See Saving Money PIR Weekend and PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend; there are links that may help you with the transportation issues and if not, Sarge may be able to help and his contact info is there.

My boyfriend left the same day. We have been together for over 4 years. I know exactly how you're feeling!! We were inseparable, especially this summer. His mom and I keep in touch and we still haven't received his Box yet. Have you?

I never thought 5 days could last so long! And it seems like 3 weeks is so far away =(

Did he leave from Baltimore as well? His box didn't come yet. I'm hoping sometime this week but I guess really all that will be in it will be his cell phone. The bag I packed him was clothes he could just donate luckily.

And seriously, I feel like a complete baby saying this but these 5 days have been the longest five days ever, it has felt like a lifetime. I just want a letter, I hope it comes within the week or so, I cant wait all the way into September. Lol I know that sounds selfish. I really am focused on him and above all else I want him to be focused and happy on his training. But I miss the F out of him. And it makes me anxious about graduation. I will see him one day then he goes right to Pensacola for A school ( he will be an AV sailor). I just hope after these 9 some months apart everything works out for the best and we are where we want to be this time next year, even with deployments etc. Ahhh .. nerve wracking !

No, he left from Portland, Maine. His box should be full of all his stuff and I'm hoping for a little note in a pocket haha. I don't think we're being babies, or being selfish. We're both really new to this whole experience so it's normal. I've been writing him letters everyday even though I don't have his address.

My boyfriend will most likely only have one day before A school as well. He's going to San Antonio, Texas to be an MA. It's definitely going to be a long journey but knowing that he'll be happy is what gets me through it! I'm glad I have some one else to talk to now, since none of my friends know what I'm going through :)

We got his Box today! He didn't write any notes (I'm not surprised haha) but he did leave one my my notes to him in his pocket. I also got a call from his recruiter this afternoon and he gave me his address. He is in DIV 392 Ship 3. I really hope this is his definite address because I plan on mailing letters tomorrow! I'm super excited now! =)

If you choose to go against what the RTC has requested and send any letters before getting the form letter, only mail one letter until you have the form letter and know the address is correct. Double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works and see Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

If I mail a letter to the address I was given today and his ship and division does change, will he still receive the letter? And how long before the form letter arrives? The box came today.

Yes, he most likely will receive it, but it could take a while, although sometimes misaddressed letters are returned. The form letter often arrives a week after "the box"--10 days after arrival is average. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).
