I am having a moment. I was kind of hoping that I would receive a letter today and didn't. I haven't gotten my box yet. I know this is all typical. My brain knows this. Unfortunately my heart doesn't. . It is KILLING me not knowing that she is OK. I KNOW she is but I just need to hear/read it. I called her recruiter today just to make sure everything was OK.. He gave me her address. MY Daughter has a Ship and Division number! This is all becoming real.

Hi Jennmobug.  When did she go to BC?  I feel like the time without contact is a form of torture.  I don't know if I can do it either.

You can do it. These days while your recruit is in BC are also training for you. Use the time to learn what is happening with your recruit, what to expect PIR weekend, and some about the rating (job/specialty) your recruit has chosen. You will get used to the new normal. Yes, there will be sad times (I have them even 6 years later at times), but remember your recruit is pursuing his dreams and he needs to know that you are all right as well. Stay busy, stay informed, stay connected to your recruit by writing letters (you can have them ready to mail when you get the form letter), stay connected to the others who are at home with you--they need your love and support as well, and stay connected with others who are going through the same thing through DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), and later your PIR group, which is most likely PIR 10/10/2014 TG 48.

Jennmobug, the above also applies to you--just change the he's to she's. Your recruit may have PIR on 10/03/2014 or 10/10/2014 since she arrived on a Tuesday.

Remember, do not send letters until you receive the form letter. You should be receiving "the box" soon. Leave a signed and dated note on your door for the FedEx driver if you happen to leave home. The Form Letter should be arriving by the end of the week--10 days after arrival is typical and it's only been 7 days since she arrived.

Just out of curiosity, what Ship/Division is she in? If she is in any of these divisions (305-314 or 947), join PIR 10/03/2014 TG 47. If she is in Division 315 or above or Division 948, join PIR 10/10/2014 TG 48.

She is fine or you would have gotten a call. Remember, "No news is good news!"

I just received the box!! I really needed that today. When I talked to the recruiter he gave me her Ship as 12 and Div 321. He told me he sent her a letter already so I hope the address is correct as I havent  gotten the letter yet.  It has been a week today. She got there Aug 13th. The recruiter helped me to understand better how things work , I think I can be a little more patient now :)

Great news on receiving "the box." Division 321 will have PIR on 10/10/2014, so join PIR 10/10/2014 TG 48. You should be receiving The Form Letter by the end of the week. Those with recruits in Divisions 315/316 started getting them yesterday and one to four divisions fill each day. Since she arrived on the 13th, she just finished P-days yesterday or perhaps today and the form letter is mailed when those are complete.  There are four regular P-days (weekends don't count). Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening.

Recruits are assigned a Ship and Division upon arrival, but sometimes that will change while the recruit is in P-days. Some ships are undergoing renovations and they may decide to move a division to a different ship before the end of P-days; sometimes recruits are moved after they get to the ship too. Wait on the form letter.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.
