My son left for boot camp on Wed. Aug. 7th.  I haven't heard from him as I went thru a bitter divorce with his dad and he decided that his one phone call would be to his sister so he didn't have to choose between his father and me.  I'm nervous I'm not going to get the information I need as he will most likely be sending his box to his dad, and his dad will not speak to me any advice from anyone?

I would say
Just start a letter and write to him
As soon as you get address
Write daily
It's gonna be ok
He will love getting your letters
You're his mamma !!!!

Hi jappyj, I understand your angst, my son left for boot camp on Aug. 5 from DFW, Texas. He has a wife (who will not answer my phone calls) and 2 children, so she will get the letter, and I probably will not be able to get any information from her. He told me the box was being sent to me but I do not think there will be any information in it. I have not received it yet, however. I have been scouring these pages and it seems to me that approximately 2 weeks after they get to boot camp we should be able to contact the recruiter and get a mailing address so that we can send letters. Since our sons left near the same dates I will share whatever information I get with you here, perhaps it will help :)

Hi LeeHuntersMom,

Thanks for your help!!! It's such a hard situation, and I am in constant tears the last few days realizing I have no way to contact him, or find out if he is ok.  Even though my son lived with my ex I was able to call whenever I want, and speak with him.  I was thinking of calling his cell and leaving a message however, I'm not sure if he sent that back or not.

If I hear anything I will let you know as well, I do have a few NAVY contacts that said they could help I may just have to take them up on that as I don't even know who is recruiter is.

I feel the same way, even though my son hasnt lived with me for a while now, he has never been more than 45 minutes away and I could always call him. I am pretty sure they send their cell phones home with the rest of their belongings. We did not think he could even take a cell phone with him so he left his phone with me before he went to the recruiters. Sunday the 4th was the last time I got to see him, yea it is tough, but I am very proud of my son and I know he is a very strong young man and will do well....allthewayup in Michigan.

I did find this sight for emergency contact if necessary, but hope we wont have a need to use it.

Going through the Red Cross is for emergencies only--not because you have not heard from a recruit.  That site does have the addresses for each of the ships though if you get the ship and division number.

jappyj, You can check with any Navy Recruiter, not just his. I believe you need his SS number and ship date. He would have sent his cell phone back because they cannot keep them. See Arrival and What Happensat the RTC. Since he's in a regular division, make sure that you wait untl the 17th or later to mail letters if you do get an address.

From your comment in BCM, it looks like your daughters are going to keep you in the loop.  The form letter will get to someone around the 17th and "the box" should get to someone on Monday or Tuesday at the earliest.

Jappyj, one of my twins arrived to bc on the 7th also so when I get my letter with his PIR I will post it, maybe yours will be the same.

Look for "the box" to arrive on Monday or Tuesday by FedEx at the earliest and the form letter around the 17th more or less.

Our son left from Miami on the 7th got his box the following Tuesday and the form letter with address on the 17 th ship 93 div 377. It's very hard not having contact but I have been told no news is good news. They were told they would get a call in appox 3 weeks
