While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I got the call at 11:20 at night the 18th. My son got a chance to let me know he was ther but I could tell he was pretty nervous...I think they do it so late at night, you will get it.

hi! i am brand new to this website and have a feeling i am going to be glued to it for the next 12 weeks!! i know absolutely nothing except that my son left for OCS bootcamp on saturday night, got to newport r.i. sunday and checked in. got a very quick (brusque even) phone call at 10:00 or so last night with an address where we can send letters. he sounded as tho someone were standing right over him while he made the call so it was short and sweet. can we send him letters now or do we have to wait? not sure what all these abbreviations mean either. what is a depper? help!

my son called at 11:15 at night but he took his cell phone and was able to let me know his whereabouts during the day. he spent 4 hours sitting at the philly airport then another hour sitting on the runway. 2 hour flight then off to find a bus to take him to the base from chicago. so it really was a long day for them. but hopefully the next phone call wont be so rushed.

My son and his buddy left Monday 8/23 from their Philly-area, PA recruiting station .. they were going to NJ overnight, then flying out to G.L. today 8/24 ... have been glued to the phone all day waiting for that 5-second call (carried the cordless out to the pastures, I'm sure the horses were amused!) ... should have looked at this DEP section first, because yep,it makes sense that the call would come late at night (I forgot about the time difference in Chicago from Philly). would have saved me a lot of dashing around today every time the phone rang!! Your imagination can sure get the better of you when you're waiting ... I'm thinking, maybe the plane got rained/ fogged in and the guys are still in NJ? Thanks for the info, Navy moms, this is reassuring to me to know that there are many other families right now going thru the same thing as my husband and I.

tbear, your son is headed to OFFICER training, correct? You have found a great group of ladies here and I'm glad you found the site, unfortunately most of the info in this Group will only confuse you further. This DEP Group is for loved ones who have enlisted Recruits who first were in the Delayed Entry Program for up to a year, then just left for Navy Boot Camp in Great Lakes Illinois. :-)
I see you have joined the OCS Graduates Moms Group. There is another Group onsite for Moms of Officers too. That is where you will find the correct information you seek and also others who may have sons in your son's OCS class. Good Luck to him and enjoy getting up to speed and connected to others who actually are on the same path here on N4Ms. =) -

I am confused as to what is the DEP (delayed entry program) I know my son is in that group. Does this have something to do with SEALS training ?

sjerseytina, I just answered your post on the Spec Ops Moms discussion. Glad you found that info helpful. :)
As far as the DEP program, that simply refers to Recruits who sign up for the Navy, but have anywhere from 1-12 months before they actually leave (i.e. Delayed Entry). They are technically in the Navy, but not officially until they take that final oath at MEPS just prior to shipping out. Their ship out date depends on their chosen Rating and slots for A school (or other further training-SEALS go to Pre BUDS instead of an A school) available.
They go to DEP meetings with other Recruits from their area, study/learn orders, work out and otherwise prepare as directed by their Recruiters. Many of our SEAL candidates also use the time to work with a SEAL motivator to improve their swimming skills and PT times. Once your son left for Boot Camp, he was no longer a DEPper, but a SR (Seaman Recruit), i.e. Boot Camper. Does that help?
Btw: the purpose of this August "Leavin" Group (like the other 11 "Leavin' Groups) is to provide a more intimate place for Moms/Wives/loved ones to connect, support and chat away as they count down the months, and then weeks and days to their Recruit's Ship Out day. Then, together they wait for the "Kid in a Box" to be delivered and that Official Navy form letter to arrive, so they know where to go next on N4Ms; i.e. which BC PIR Group and Division Group either to form and/or plug into during the rest of the weeks of Boot Camp, until PIR. This is a transient place. :-) Soon, you will all move on as proud Moms of new Sailors and the Moms from next year will begin to post. -

Chris's Mom, You may have another week to wait. they probably just started allowing the Recruit's to write this Sunday. The first call often doesn't come until about 3 weeks in. Hang in there and keep writing to your Recruit. Every day isn't too much. They live for mail call! :-)
