Well it is fast approaching that my first born will be leaving for BC. I am very proud and overjoyed that my son has chosen to join the Navy. I am also feeling the anguish seep in. As it gets closer it is so hard, I think it is the fear of the unknown, my husband served in the Army, and he has been a great help in easing our fears. My son is feeling a little frightened and worried about leaving home for the first time. His dad has been awesome in telling him that all of this is normal. This site has also been very helpful, and informative. I have been able to let my son know things that he didn't even know. I just want to thank all you moms for being so helpful in sharing information.

Hi, my son leaves on the 28th as well.  I'm so excited for him, and really nervous as well.  I'm wondering - When his recruiter takes him to the hotel on Tuesday the 27th, do they leave for boot camp on the 28th? I was told I could go to the Federal building to see him sworn in.  Will he call me and tell me the time?  On another note, we're having his going away dinner at Hooters (!!!!) on Monday the 26....a few family members have said it's not appropriate, and will not be attending.  I want his friends and family to come and have a good time, not for us all to stare at each other across a table and strain for conversation...is this a bad idea??   On Tuesday the 27th we're having family over for sloppy joes (his favorite!) before he leaves for the hotel. I feel like I'm worrying about the craziest things, but I've been reading up on this site since January, and yes a lot of great information.

Yes, the new recruit will leave for the RTC on the same day that he is sworn in at MEPS. The recruiter can give you an idea of what time he willbe sworn in. See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... for other things to take care of.

Hi my first born leaves the 27th! His recruiter left in march and has had a new one since. 90% of the information I've gotten has been here thank y'all so much! Sill working hard to keep the panic attack at bay I've been a single mom for 15 years I'm very proud of him but also worried I have a hard time letting go but this has been very helpful in making sure he has everything he needs!

My second son left today for boot camp.  My older son has recently completed his 4 year tour of duty with the Navy and is now back home.  I miss my son like crazy.  I just got the scripted phone call telling me he was there,  Believe me, it does get easier, but it hurts so bad right now, it seems unbearable.  Hang in there moms!  Already looking forward to PIR.  Cannot wait to find out the date.
