desireenavygf,

I am the mom of Navy sailor and one of my daughter's is engaged to a Navy sailor who is in Hawaii.  My son is in A school in Pensacola, FL currently.  Before my daughter graduated from college in May, we lived in New Mexico, so she was away from her bf.   I lived there as well and while her bf was in Hawaii, we did a lot of things together.  I was so very grateful to have that time with her, before she moved to Hawaii to be with him.  If you are close by your mom, try to spend as much time with her as you can.  She will appreciate all the time she has with you and you can be each other's shopping, movie and dinner dates, while your bf is gone.

I can tell you that when your bf is gone the main thing is write to him every single day.  Even if you think that what you write is insignificant or boring, he won't think that.  I know of moms who actually sent their grocery lists to their sons.  It was there way of letting them know what was going on in their day.  If your bf tells you not to write every day, DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. He will live for your letters from home, once he is there.

I spent a good deal of my time printing out pictures on paper to send to my son.  He loved them!

Join a gf/wives group on Navy4moms.  This website is a godsend.  They will know exactly how you are feeling and will be there for you, like no one else can be there.

Spend a lot of time with your friends and family.  Try not to be alone very much.  If you are alone, you will only think about him.  Keep your mind busy too.  If you are in school, work hard on that.  If not, think about taking classes, this is a perfect time to also start a new hobby or craft.  Maybe you could make your bf a blanket or gift that he could take with him to his A school.

I know that when you are thinking about it now,  8 weeks seems like an eternity, but one thing that all sailors have are strong women behind them.  Be that person for him.  When you writ to him, don't concentrate on how much you miss him, he will already know that, but continuously tell him how proud you are of his choice and give him encouragement, even when his letters may seem down.

Good luck and we are all here for you.

thank you for the great advice.. I will def take in your suggestions. And your right when I think of 8weeks it def seems like a long time. I try my best to be postive for him esp since I am the only one backing up his decesion. I really like the idea of taking up a craft and making him something I have to look into doing that I am thinking a blanket would be nice. That's for the support and yes this website is god sent most people dont realize the sacrafies the family make esp the wives/girlfriends it almost like we joined but without an option. I know it will be hard and this website along with the people on it will def help me get through this tough time. Thanks again.
