Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

llcharle75, After you receive the box there is still the form letter to come. Your son probably won't even receive mail until two weeks after he moves to his ship for training, or approx three weeks after he arrives. Hang in there, he is in good hands!

Comment by Emptynester on February 5, 2014 at 4:01pm

llcharle75, even when you get the box, it won't have the PIR date or address.  That comes separately. It took about 2.5 weeks for me to get the form letter.

Hang in there!  We've all done this and been sad when things didn't come as we had hoped/expected, then when it does come all you can think about is when the next communication will be.  They don't call it a roller-coaster ride for nothing.

You may be new enough to not have heard that 'no news is good news'. If there was something wrong, you would know about it.

Just know that everything is going to plan and your SR is being well looked-after by the Navy.

It may help to read some of the older posts here. We were all where you are now and it gets easier as we get stronger.  Be positive!

Well, I have to honestly say that I am sad right now.  I was expecting my son's box of stuff to be here by Monday, but it wasn't.  Then yesterday, for sure I though it would be here, as it was one week exactly when he left to boot camp.  I got the yellow post office card in my mail box when I checked my mail yesterday after work, so I was very excited as I thought it was his box.  So today, my sister took the yellow card to our post office to pick up whatever it was, and it wasn't my son's box :(

Either I'm over doing how I'm feeling, but I'm getting frustrated, and I'm sad all over again.  I'm going to check the mail again today after work, and I'm going to pray that I get something indicating that it may be here.  I don't want my son to feel left out from receiving mail when others in his division may be receiving. I have my first letter ready to mail out, and I miss him so much :(

Anyway, my afternoon right now is at a low.  Hoping after work when I check the mail that I get another yellow card for a package.

Hello Navy Moms

I got my "Box" today!!!!!  wooooohooooo!!!  I was so happy to find the box on my door steps....but a little disappointed there was no note from him.  I guess he rushed  to finish packing.   But anyways, I am totally stoke I got it.  Next is the form letter.    thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Aggiemom---I am confident you will get your "box" this week.  perhaps he is in a different group.  I will pray for you and son tonight.

When I got my phone (2 minutes)!!! from Hunter this weekend he said that they have all been put on hold!?!  Not sure if this will effect his graduation or not.  Talked to his recruiter yesterday and he said it could but most likely they  will be able to get caught up, if they can get started this week.  I guess there were several from his division that were not able to get flights to Chicago due to the weather.  Hopefully his division will be completed and caught up so we will be back on track.

Hi January mom's - I guess we are all who are left as our SR's were the last to leave. SO glad many of you have gotten your box. I am anxious to get mine. Maybe today! Have been pretty good up until the last couple of days. Beginning to think about all the possible negative things that could be going wrong. The form letter, Heather, comes separately and will have all the PIR info. THere is much on this site about PIR to read also.

My son left for BC on January 28th and I have received my "box" but that is all the information that I have gotten so far. Will all the other info be in the form letter? We are trying to plan for PIR but have no dates yet.

Hi...I haven't received my son's box of stuff, and I'm anxiously waiting for it.  I thought it be here yesterday, but nothing.  So I'm crossing all toes and fingers that I get it today. I have a question, though. We have a P.O. Box, and I've read some comments saying a Fed Ex delivery was made to those who already rec'd their kid's box.  Will this effect how I'll be getting his box?
