Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

June, you could possibly find someone on here that can take things to him or "adopt" him for graduation. Once you know his PiR, ask to see and maybe get to know another mom!

Jbug, my son elf the 15th. I haven't heard anything since the box. Hoping for a phone call and form letter this week. Talked to his dad and he hasn't heard anything from him either :(

It really is helpful knowing that we are all going through the same thing and having the same feelings. My husband was in the Marines so his perspective is different than mine. He is processing it differently because he has been in our son's shoes. I am sticking to the no news is good news philosophy and looking forward to getting his letter with his PIR date and his first unscripted phone call. I am thankful for all of the resources and support on this site.

Russmama93,  I know exactly how you feel.  My son left Wednesday and although I was pretty good up until the good bye it was then that I came unglued.  It has been 4 days and I am now focusing on the count down to PIR and that makes it easier. I try to remember what it was like to have an adventure when I was that age, that gives me perspective.

Hi Cyndie, mamma dukes and Abbie and anyone else who's family is with my son in the Jan 23rd BC. My heart and thoughts are with all if you. I just love it here to know other people are all feeling the same way. So many people have such encouraging words and information in the learning process. For those thinking of PIR when are you making travel plans? Are most of you having whole families coming even though only 4 can attend? My daughter and I were looking at comments regarding accommodations. Any families have suggestions? Does anyone here have older family members starting the Navy? My son is 28. Enjoy your day everyone.. Lori

Oh, lemonelephant...what a blessing you are! You've helped turn my fear of the unknown into pride for what my SR is doing!  I guess we can all take a lesson from that! Our SR's are learning and growing and will represent our country proudly. I have to continually remind myself that the Navy has been doing this for a long time and know exactly what they're doing!  (Are you a therapist, by any chance?  ;)

Emptynester77, It is true that the YN, especially the YN for the ship is very busy and may be taking care of duties when others in the division are calling--sometimes the recruit is able to call at another time, but not always. I know of a Ship Staff YN who was taking care of paperwork when the "I'm a Sailor!" calls were made for his division an did not make that call--his mom knew that she had not received a call saying there was a problem and she had gotten a letter saying he was an honor graduate, so she believed "No news is good news!" and went to PIR to see her Sailor. Some have had another recruit call and pass on info for them, but most don't think of that or don't know that a call is going to be made (some are scheduled well in advance and the recruits know about them, but not all are).
