Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Our son left for BC on 1/14 from Spokane.  We got our "Boy in a Box" yesterday, even though it was a holiday!  I don't know why, but it was good to see his dirty clothes and his beloved Converse.  Missing him so badly today, I can hardly wait to get that form letter, so I can send his letters!  Looking forward to knowing what division he's in and when his PIR is.

Praying for Hunter.  That is the sweetest thing ever.  I am waiting for the boy in the box too and form letter.  Maybe today?

I am still waiting for his address and my "Boy in a Box"  I am writing letters everday.  When he got to basic and was able to text me he told me to got to the laundry room and look on the top shelve....He had left me a suprise.  He had gone to the local Build a Bear workshop and made me a Navy sailor Bear.  I care this bear around like a little girl, when I squeeze him is is my sons voice "I love you Mom!!"  I love and miss my son more than anything...the not kowning what they are doing and how he feels is the hardest part right now.

I totally understand momof06.. I am hoping that today will officially start their week since yesterday was a holiday.. I am so looking forward to PIR. When I see my son i am going to give him the biggest hug and kiss ever.. I feel so bad because before he left he wanted me to sit and watch the movie " We are the Nelsons" .. I told him i would however i never got around to it.. I am sick now..! My husband couldn't understand why i was writing our son a letter every single night.. I told my husband he don't have a heart.. Funny on the way to church on sunday my husband started crying so bad.. he didn't want me and the kids to see however it was obvious!  tears were coming down like Niagara Falls.. I told him to stop being so hard.. it's ok to miss our son!

I don't blame you ibug!  NO one in the house better touch the mail box or that box when it comes.. I don't care if it's only dirty clothes..I want to be the first.. It's the extra special bond that moms have their children.. sorry Dads

jbug...funny, that's exactly what my husband said but he knew better than to open it without me. It's just like Christmas. I knew what I'd find but it was reassuring that things were there I expected. Thought I'd be all emotional but I think after reading everything I could on this site, I was pretty prepared.  Now if I could only get a phone call!

My husband just text me at work. My "kid in a box" just arrived. I told him not to open it yet and to wait until I get home. He said you know its just dirty clothes and a cell phone don't you. It's just emotional for me.

PJs-Mom - that happened to my son. He was suppose to leave January 7 but he was sent home until 1/12 due to the weather all of the flights into DET, MDWAY and CHI were all cancelled they were having issues deicing planes. Enjoy the extra time you have with him.

My son was all set to leave today for MEPS Beckley WV, but his recruiter called and postponed due to weather...  he will be in touch about when PJ leaves now.

My boyfriend spent last night at a hotel and this morning he is at meps then he leaves for bootcamp this evening. I'm hoping to be able to see him get sworn in were just unsure what time it will be happening at so were not really sure when i should head down town. I'm so glad i've found this group and have the support of other girlfriends, moms, friends, of men and women going in around the same time :) I'm really looking forward to having a place to come chat and support one another while B is away.

My husband flew out the 16th of January for Great Lakes, I am hoping to receive his form letter by the end of the week.  His first phone call he sounded like a recording, but at least at the end he said I love you.  That did make my night.
