Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son's box arrived today.(he arrived on Jan 8th) I am sort of nervous about opening it...will probably make me cry again... can't wait for the letter to arrive...need to have contact again..a big thank you to all of you for helping me keep my sanity...hope to meet you all...

My husband just told me the box arrived. My son left NM on Jan 8.  I called the recruiter though, and they did not have his address yet :(

I'm excited about opening the box but am aware that it may become a very emotional moment.

KimmyD - I wouldn't start worrying yet. If there was something to worry about, you would know that by now. Just a matter of the delivery schedules for FedEx.

My son arrived at Boot on Jan 8,2014 - no "kid in a box" yet :(

When do I start to be concerned?

Russmama93- We had a Bon voyage over Christmas break with the family and I made and gave everyone navy blue t-shirts (Michaels $3) with 2 1/2" white letters that spelled out "NAVY" across the chest. We took a group picture in front of the tree and I hope to give a framed copy to my daughter that she can keep with her at "A" school. The letters can be pricey but Michaels may be willing to work with you if you tell them what you're doing.

Hi all! So happy to hear all the good reports of their SR's making it to GL ok and receiving their "kid in a box"! My son leaves for BT the 27th and we are having his huge "Bon Voyage" party this weekend! I am going to read some of the funny boot camp letter quotes from SR's! Any other suggestions or presentations we can do for him? we have a table too for everyone there to write him a note that we will send him a few at a time to RTC

My SR got to Great Lakes about 11 pm on 1/7/14. I got his box on Saturday 1/11/14. Had been warned how "empty n final" it would make me feel! It definitely did. His recruiter posted his address on his Facebook page, the following day, so I have written daily. I read somewhere that sometimes recruiters don't have the correct address though, so you should wait to mail letters till you receive "the letter", which I have not. Super badly hate the no contact.

kkjetz, I have already sent 6 letters off, since getting her address last night.

kkjetz - If you call the recruiters office, hopefully they can give you his address.

Hi everyone -

Thanks for all the chatter!  Lizzieshusband I'm so glad to hear that our recruit's spirits are good so far.  ;-))  I know my daughter was really not looking forward to the shots, but she's pretty healthy and shouldn't have had a physical reaction. I hope the recruit that did gets over it fast. Looks like your wife arrived 24 hours before my daughter so anything you post will give me a heads up on what's coming. I'm hoping since NC is closer than FL that maybe my box will come today.  ;-))  And then the letter which is what I'm really looking foward to.  I have about 5 letters waiting to go out.  Ha!
