Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Our son leaves January 16th. I'm sad that he's leaving, but so very excited for all of the opportunities that are coming his way.

My daughter leaves on Jan. 27, 2014. Anyone else departing on this particular day? She signed up back in early May, and here we are at the end of Nov., I just cannot believe it is now right around the corner. I will miss her so very much and I love her far more than she knows! There has GOT to be a bigger word than 'love' to describe how I feel about my child! In my heart of hearts, I know this is what she chose to do with her life and I support her decision 150%. I know she will succeed in the Navy, and I am beyond proud of her. She has made me so happy for the past 18 years and I know that she will continue to make me happy/proud in her journey through life. She never fails to excel....and I thank my lucky stars each and every day for being blessed with such a head strong, smart, beautiful daughter! Thank you for wanting to serve, my Dear Daughter! I am being selfless, and letting you go spread your wings and soar.... enjoy your journey...and know that whenever you need me, I will forever be here waiting for you! <3 Always, Mom

For those with a loved one with a current ship date that falls in the Holiday Stand-down period or within a week after: Your future Sailor's recruiter will let him/her know if ship date will change. Know that your future Sailor's recruiter will not be available between the shut down dates and that will affect the 7 day check before shipping and some who were given a ship date at the beginning of the year in the past have been delayed a week as a result, so be prepared for that, but don't plan on it. Even those who ship around the holidays do not have more than 10 Fridays at the RTC. (See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.)

For 2013 Holiday Season Stand-down: Commander, Navy Recruiting Command has authorized a holiday leave period for recruiting activities beginning on close of business December 17, 2013 through January 5, 2013. In conjunction with this period, Recruit Training Command will not receive any recruits during the period from December 13th through January 5, 2014.

Hi maeingram65, there are sites on the web that will fare watch for you and will let you know when the price goes lower.  Expedia has one and so does Kayak.com.  That might help you.  I rented my car from Advantage out of O'Hare, it was under $10 a day for a compact back in March.  They were the cheapest by far.  Good luck and welcome.

Hi! I am new to this site and I have to admit I don't know much about the Navy! My daughter enlisted in June as a DC and leaves in just a few months! The months are starting to fly! She always likes to plan ahead and is insisting since I am a disabled single mom that she pay for my flight, hotel, and possibly rental car. So far, after doing research she wants me to stay at the Navy Lodge since it has wonderful reviews and it is so close to the base. The main problem is the flight cost. We are from Alabama so the trip to Great Lakes is very expensive. Do any of you have any tips on how to save money for all of this? I don't want her to spend all of her hard earned money!
