While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

TACOsMom, I thought I'd be a big mess when my son left last week on 1/14. We dropped him off at the recruiter's on Sunday for him to go to the hotel and then the MEPS on Monday. When we dropped him off, I felt like it was his first day of kindergarden all over again as he walked away with just his backpack. He couldn't be happier and I couldn't be sadder. My mom and I met him at MEPS the next day and already I could see a change in him--standing so tall, proud, and confident. I felt such a feeling of peace that I couldn't be sad or worried anymore. I miss him and miss talking/texting every day or nearly every day, but I still feel like he has definitely made the right decision for his future.

I'm proud of myself. I just wrote a letter to my son during my lunch break that I'll slip into his wallet before he leaves for GL on Tuesday and I didn't cry! I even had the door shut to my office. I totally thought I would have a meltdown, but I didn't...whew!

Jazzys Mom and Nicksmomwendy, I am like you and stalking my mailman for the form letter today. My son left on 1/14 and I can't wait to find out his PIR date and his address so I can mail off these letters I've been writing him every day :)

Thanks Treysmom45. I'm hoping she didn't have a brain bubble and decide to send the information to her dad. He is notorious for not passing along information lol. I'll keep my fingers crossed that didn't happen and it will be there when I get home from work.

Maybe someone can answer my question about a change in BC length. BC has historically been 8 weeks. My son's girlfriend had PIR last October, and was told that her's was the last 8 week course, and it would now be 10 weeks. They were adding 1 week of additional firearms and another week for additional hand to hand combat. However, I see PIR dates 8 weeks after the P days. So, what's the story?????

We got the form letter yesterday but missed FedEx for the box. Hopefully that will be there when I get home from work. Our SR is Ship 13/Div 115 with a PIR of 3/15/13. For now my sadness has subsided and I'm so excited! It really has been a roller coaster of emotions.

DaltonsMom, you will have to see what he says when he sees you then. Some have to return to their ship and some are ready to leave from the Drill Hall. It all depends if they have to go get their photos or if the RDC requires that they return for some reason. Be sure to check out PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you plan your weekend. I see you have joined Seabee Moms, so you may be able to see how things have worked lately.
