Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Does anyone know how far O'Hare Airport is to the base?

SuzanneK: Ship 3 div 090. I don't know if that stays the same or may change. I'm so lost right now with some of this stuff. No clue where A school is. Not sure he knows either. Did you get your box yet?

CrazyNavyMom, I feel the same way! My fiance left last Monday as well but I was able to see him that night at the hotel. It's been hard I have to say, and getting the box was in a way relieving but also confirmed the fact that he's officially gone for the next 8 weeks. I, just like you, am living in anticipation for the next phase. Anxiously waiting the form letter now so I can send out the continuously growing pile of letters for him lol and let his family know so that they can all write to him as well, then a letter, phone call, etc. I can't wait for the "I'm a sailor" call because I know that I will see him within a week at that point! Stay strong! We are all here for each other through this crazy ride <3

My son left last monday.. 1 week.  the worst so far was..the day he left then two more.. I am feeling better.  The week before he left was harder than what it is right now.  Anticipating him leaving...fighting the urge to say "please dont go"...  now its one of those "he did it, get over it" feelings and I know I can make it with the help of my friends here.
To you mothers who have not sent your SR off yet... not gonna lie... I am embarrassed now because my normal quiet cries were very loud when the bus pulled out... I couldnt cry quietly...my heart was absolutely broken, like mourning a death..  Everyone handles each thing different.  I tell you how I handled it so you know you are not alone.   It shocked me...I had been crying the whole last week he was here...and just all that raw emotion poured out when he left.  OMG..it hurt.  But.. soon you will get th box.. and you will know, things are progressing as they should.. and you wait for the next sign (as I am doing) which is the form letter... then a letter, a call...maybe more letters or another call..  then theres the Im a sailor call..and... you are nearing the end..    I am only a week into this...and live in anticipation of the next step.  ((hugs)) to all no matter what phase you are in...

SuzanneK:  any luck with the address yet?

My Depper went for his day-before BC meeting and found out that he's 5 lbs over the weight limit. He's on the shorter side (5'9"ish) and so can't weight over 165 or so - so instead of a nice night before you leave dinner...he's going to be cardio-ing and eating fruit and trying to get the water weight off. Sheesh! His last weight check was in Colorado and wasn't at an official site, so it showed him as weighing what he needed.

Got our box today.  Our SR left 1/5.  Today is my birthday so it was like a little gift from him to receive that today.  He must not have had any paper available because he left us a note written on the inside of the box itself, lol!  I thought I might cry when it arrived but I didn't.  And his watch didn't come home with his other things so I guess he got to keep it too.  I did get a whole envelope full of paperwork that was marked please keep for me.  Didn't know that would be in there but thats fine, we will just put it with his other documents in our safety deposit box.

Hoping more of these boxes arrive soon for you moms.  We're getting a bit of a blizzard here today, but that didn't stop fed ex from delivering.  Hang in there!

Hi MandaRae88 - no - as of right now, we haven't received the box yet.  If not today, then probably in the next few days it will get here. What about you?
