Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I got the call last night at 11:40pm. when I answered the call he said, "hey mom, I'm at bootcamp." I had to laugh at that. He sounded like his normal self and it was a relief. I actually slept the rest of the night which I haven't done in the last couple of weeks. Hang in there, everyone.

My son is leaving for the hotel on Sunday and then off to boot camp on Monday.  I am a rollercoaster of emotions right now.  I have been crying on and off for the past three days.  Last night his best friend came over to show us he shaved his hair in support of my son.  He had hair down to his shoulders...lol.  I just wanted to cry again but I don't want to do it in front of my son.  We are having a going away party on Saturday and I bought the blue candles to give out to our family and friends.  I found these red, white and blue little gift bags to put them in and I printed up the saying.  They look great.

Just got our "I'm here" call. He sounded good. Scripted and formal but good. Miss him already. It was hard to come home to his stuff laying helper smelter everywhere the way he left it.

Well today my husband left for basic. It SUCKS. i'm devastated. I came home, and everything was as he left it. I can't even look at things he laid to make taking over easier for me without crying. This is unlike anything I've ever felt. I miss him, I love him, I'm so proud. I still have not received a call, though.. and that is bothering me. Good luck to everyone else.. it is not easy.. but at least the countdown can begin.

Hannah's mom  I am so with you on how hard this is.   I helped my son fill out the power of attorney and health care proxy and for a mom it was very hard to have that "what if" conversation with him    Luckily he was great with it and knew all about the health care proxy  having taken death and dying course in college  but it was very hard for me to think about it

Our son has arrived.  He called from the airport to let us know he landed safely, and was heading to the USO.  I have my blue candle burning.  It was a proud moment when he swore in, but sad just the same.

Hello Everyone,

My daughter leaves for BC on the 19th, so I will drop her off at the hotel on the 18th.  She is my baby and my only girl so this is going to be extremely hard.  I am enjoying every moment with her, but she is a teen and that only goes so far.  We are going to take in a couple of movies this Friday night, so that will be fun.  I am already finding this website extremely helpful and knowing that all of the emotions being felt right now are the same ones that all of you are experiencing.  Keep posting and encouraging, I am really having to choke back a lot of tears already, I can't imagine the day she leaves.  Take care all and God Bless.

My daughter left for bootcamp yesterday.  She flew out in the morning and spent about six hours at the USO at the airport in Chicago.  She was able to text from the USO.  Finally, about 10pm (11pm Chicago time) we received the "arrival" call from her. It was brief and sounded rehearsed.  She did manage to slip in a "love you mom" at the end!  Now I just have to wait for the form letter and the "box."  Ah - this is so much harder than I thought it would be.  I hope this eight weeks goes by quickly.  This is torture not to be able to communicate with her.

Good luck to those moms whose sons left this week. My son leaves the 18th which is coming up quickly.

nicksmom~my son didn't want us to go to the swearing in either. I was upset about it but understand it, now. I  saw that his flight landed but still haven't heard anything.  Hurry up and wait.......
