Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son leaves on the 18th of this month.  I have tried not to think about it.  It is going to be so hard when he is gone.  I drop him off on the 17th at the hotel, if I understand everything correctly.

My son leaves for BC on the 19th of this month. It is starting to sink in. I have found lots of helpful info on this site. Thanks for being here. God bless our loved ones.

We dropped our son off yesterday at 2pm with the recruitor and he spent the night in a hotel and swears in today at 10 AM.  I would of loved to went, but he wanted to do it alone.  So, I said my goodbyes yesterday and haven't heard from him except a text last night while he was eating at Saltgrass with other recruits.  God bless our sons/daughters on this new journey in their life!

Our son gets picked up at 11am today by his recruiter.  He will stay at a hotel tonight.  We are going to meet him at MEPS to see him sworn in tomorrow morning and then he will be off to BC!  Lots of emotions going on here!  We are relieved that his body fat % was under the required 25%!  He is excited and ready to go!

We are getting ready to leave for the area MEPS for the final swearing in. I dread the time to say good bye.  I know we will see him in 2 months but we saw him everyday and talked all the time.

Our son heads to the hotel in a few hours. Flies out tomorrow. We are going to meet him at the hotel and take him to dinner tonight and head back tomorrow for the swearing in and airport wait. Wow, lots of emotions today.

sunshine73---I know exactly how you feel (well in a different way lol) My fiance left today, his best friend came over and drove him to the recruiter station this morning as we both agreed it would be much harder if i drove him but he decided that he wanted me to come to see him at the hotel he is staying at tonight so i went along with some of his family and we all hung out in the lobby until lights out. He leaves early in the morning for final physicals and then a flight to Chicago. It was a nice night and I think it helped take a lot of the stress off of both of us. He, just like your son, told me that 2 months really isn't that long, and before I know it, we'll be seeing each other again. Just remember we're all here for each other! No matter what =) keep your head up

Beth---thank you for the support for us who have loved ones leaving this week (mine leaves bright and early tomorrow morning as he is at a hotel with all the other DEPpers in the area), i will try my best to stay strong for him as i have the past few weeks preparing for all of this

I love the info - this is all new to me.  My son leaves in 3 weeks and I am finding its harder to let him go than I thought it would be.

I talked to the recruiter about the shot record. He said if you have it, then it could save you from some of the shots that you don't need. I took a copy of the shot record so I would have one if he lost it.

We have sent him off today and will meet up with him tomorrow morning. At this point, the recruiter didn't know if he would go by bus or plane. We are about 6 hours away from Chicago.
