Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

4 days till our son leaves. We are having his friends over tonight to ring in the New Year and then a big Anchors Away party on Sunday afternoon. I too have found myself tearing up at the oddest moments or waking during the night thinking of something else that we forgot to do. So much useful info on here, thanks to the seasoned moms for getting us through this stage!

I believe they do sign another contract from what I have read on here. I reminded my son to double-check his contract and make sure he has his recruiter's cell phone #. Mine has also been cleaning out his room and passing things onto his younger brothers. :)

It is so nice to know we are on the same "ship" together. My rs leaves in 19 days and I haven't been sleeping either. Seems like there is so much to do right now and the time just flies by. His last day at work was yesterday so he will spend the rest of his time finishing packing up his room and getting it into storage.
He wants this so badly, and I want it for him, just hope all goes smoothly.
Question- He has signed one contract from his recruiter, does he sign a final one at MEPS before he leaves? If he does can he take a copy of the one he originally signed to compare them to make sure all is good?

Mine is down to 19 days. I have been sleeping ok but tear up at the oddest times...grocery store, driving to work, when his friends stop by, etc.

OK Ladies, I'm starting to freak a lil bit...my son is leaving in 24 days...the last couple of days I have not been sleeping well....so I guess this is how it all starts...never knew I was such a cry baby...

He leaves for MEPS Monday morning at 10am but won't leave for GL until Tuesday morning! We were so afraid that it had somehow fallen into a trash bag during all the cleaning. Turns out that it was in his truck (where he had looked twice) the whole time. We moved the bed, TV stand, dressers, everything looking for it. Asked for prayers and found it in less than 5 minutes. Putting everything in the box sounds like something he would do too. We are all breathing easier around here now.

SMichelle--thanks again for the great tips! I really like the idea of having him call my cell to leave a message to listen when he is at BC. Only 20 more days!!! Time seems to be moving quickly now.
