Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son did the 30 day meeting last week and just mentioned it tonight. So we are one step closer to D Day(departure day).

Beth, kudos to you! I am sorry your hubby was injured but I am glad you are getting to spend a little time with both of them. Hang in there!

Our son is on his way to meps for some sort of last minute thing. Recruiter was very vague on the phone, just said we need to go now, pick you up in 10 minutes. They are on their way now. I asked when they left how long they would be and didn't really get an answer. Hmmm, wonder whats up? He is supposed to be leaving January 5.

Glassdog My only child Dan leaves for bootcamp on Jan 19th and I totally understand where you are coming from Im treasuring each minute I can talk with or see my son now He has lived on his own for 2 years but very close to us and will finish up his Associated degree next week but knowing that this christmas could be the last for a while is hard

I find myself crying at a drop of a hat and feeling not good toward those who dont have someone in the military Christmas has always been a very special time for us and the 29th is also his 21st bday

Its just sometimes so darn hard to not be selfish I know this is what he wants but Im really going to miss him even though Im incredibly proud of him

Thanks Moms for being here as it seems that outside of this board people just dont get it

It is good to know that there are others who can share this journey. JessicaB I will take your advice and journal. It is something that I do already, but had been keeping much to myself. I do not let go of feelings easily in many cases, but in this I must. It will be interesting to look back on these journals in a year or two.

PollyAnna we will enjoy this roller coaster ride and I think it amazing that you are doing this twice. Although I will never know as my son is my only child I would not think it was any easier the second time around. Congratulations to your oldest son and blessings on your "youngest".

It is good to know there are such an amazing group and I am happy to be a part of it. I must go now as one of my 4 legged sons is demanding attention. Goodnight to all of you.

Under a month now, Laurademinica. I'm glad the Holidays are a good distraction. I was too sick for work last week (kidney, sinus, and ear infection) but I think it was a blessing in disguise. Got to watch 3 movies with my son on afternoons that I would have been at work. Thanks JessicaB for all the wonderful links. Hang in there glassdog! huggs to you!

Thanks for the insight JessicaV-SailorMom. I am glad I found it as it took me 3 stores. I am getting it ready for some photos, words of encouragement and anything else I can get in there that will give him the strength to get through boot camp, and other trying times in his life.

My son leaves in 44 days and I am constantly looking at him and remembering him at different ages. The firsts in his life, his joys, his sorrows, and I always think what an awesome gift this only child of mine is. I pray that my husband and I have taught him to be the kind of man that is strong, compassionate, and willing to do what is right in his life. We will enjoy every single minute of every single day until he leaves and then we will enjoy every minute that we know he is making a good life for himself without us. This being a parent is a very hard job, and as they grow it only gets harder because you know that you can't always be there to fix the hurts. But you can always rejoice in the achievements.

Thank you for letting me have a platform for getting my thoughts out as I can't really get them out to anyone else I know. None of my other friends are Navy moms and if I tell my husband I will start to cry.
