Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I think you all have been given some good ideas about what to buy for Christmas gifts like cell phone, lap top, IPOD, game systems or games, chargers, a phone card, a big one with like 1000 minutes - I know that sounds like a lot...but my son used a lot from 3 one hour phone calls at RTC and then waiting on the cell phone to get there at A-school he has used a lot of it and loaning to it others who didn't bring one...and address book filled out with addresses and phone numbers of family and friends - you'll be surprised at what they forget under stress at boot camp.... a small photo album that you make on regular paper that you can send to them when they get to boot camp of pictures of them and dogs and friends etc...a small bible with notes of encouragement from family members and friends on the blank pages ( there are a lot of them).

I would caution you about giving them clothes for Christmas. This is because their stature may change..my son lost 40 pounds in boot camp and he wasn't heavy...he weighed 189 lbs and was 6ft when he went in...149 at PIR and this is common. They are lean and mean....when they graduate. On PIR weekend they love to go downtown Chicago to NIKE town so a gift certificant to there would be awesome if they like clothes...because frankly it is shoulder to shoulder sailors in there...lol and they get like a 30% discount too... That is just my input...hope it helps!!

Hi Beth...saw your question about power of attorney. First welcome to Navy for Moms. you will see more of me as you enter Boot Camp for Moms and your PIR group. Jessica, Dianne and I are the moms that typically answer qeustions in these groups. However in regard to your question, absolutely get durable power of attorney for your recruit. If you do not have this you will not be able to do any business for your recruit while they are in boot camp such as car registrations, changes to their cell phone etc. You will be surprised at what little things might come up that you need to take care of that you can't without this document.

Jessica stopped by and gave you the hint for your Deppers about running in boos I always follow up with the hint for moms...there are only a few things your child can take to boot camp....however I snuck I mean tucked a few bandaids in one of the slots for credits cards in his wallet...saved the back of his heels when the blisters tried to form from the boots....lol....you might want to add that to your list,,,I am a loophole finder....lol

Thanks for the information PollyAnna. It's so hard to make any plans right now. I work full time and attend school. We have a family member that is going to stay with me to help with the baby while I work. It would just be easier to know how everything will work out so I know how to plan. If that is the case and it is straight off to A school than at least I know how I will need to manage till than.

Hello everyone, my husband will be leaving for bootcamp right after the New Year's on January 4th. Afterwards he will be going to Pensicola FL for A school. I'm hoping he won't be a Grad and Go as we have an 11month old son together and it would be nice for him to come home and visit before he leaves again. Is there anyone else with the same BC leave date?

navymomsquared- welcome to the site. My son leaves on January 19th. It's coming so quickly. Everything everyone shares is so helpful. It's like questions get answered before I ask them. Good luck to your future sailors.

Reading the comments about the holidays and ideas on how to handle gifts is very helpful. My son leaves for BC Jan 18 so I'm in a similar situation. We're having the family to our house for Christmas, my son is doing all the planning with me. He loves his food! Thank you...

It is amazing how they appreciate things that most people take for granted-even the ones who haven't left yet.
