Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I got the 30 sec. "I'm here in GL" call. He sounded rushed. Any insight into what is going on during that first "mini" call. It was strange my husband is a chatty one. Of course as soon as he hung up I started crying again. It's nice to see other people having the same crazy stream of emotions that I am. I did get to stay with him the night before MEPS.
Hugs to all, know I need one!

Good luck to you both, it's a rough couple of first days. My son 1/12 and I got the form letter last night. Anyone PIR 3/5. Seems so short only 7 1/2 weeks. We were thinking at least 8-9 weeks. My son is ship 11 division 113. Anyone else same PIR or division? Count down has begun!

Thanks everyone! I just thought he was so prepared mentally and physically that he would sound "normal", but my husband explained that no matter how prepared he was they just turned his world upside down LOL! I am sure he will be fine!

Well just got the "call". He said I would receive something in three weeks? He was talking so quiet and sounded kind of scared. As a mom , it made me a little sad.

My son left for GL January 13. I got the I'm here call late that night. I got another call from him yesterday, which REALLY surprized me. I wasn't expecting another call until the 3 week mark. Should I be concerned about this? I spoke to one of his friends that is currently in A School who said it might have been a reward, or it could be that he is in danger of being sent home. Not sure what to think. I'm going to contact the local recruiter for some insight. I got the box today, can't wait for the letter!

Bobdot.... we knew she could leave after check in and the Hotel is only 10 mins from the house.....it was nice she came back... we've had so many people around the last week.. her and I had very little time to ourselves... so we talked...watched some TV... and back off she went!

Bobdot... sounds like she has everything she needs...just said goodbye to my daughter for the 2nd time!...lol... recruiter picked her up at 2:30 ..checked her in at the hotel... only 1 person was there.. so she came back home 25 mins later!...just dropped her off at the hotel .....now I can sit back... relax and take it down... not a tear was shed by either of us and still not feeling like I have too... we are both every excited by her decision ... good luck tomorrow!

lol... my daughter leaves in 2 hrs... (EST)... she's still in bed sleeping... packed yesterday.... just got stamps and a phone card (boy are they rip offs)...had dinner with our closests friends yesterday all here at the house....2 of the young ladies that were here are 15 & 16 and she was giving them all kinds of advice on how to pick and choose the "right" friends...find the diamonds in the rough... be careful where you go and always be aware of your suroundings... start looking for colleges now... (1 is 1 yr away the other is 2 yrs away) research the scholarships available.... and went on to tell them of her mistakes and actually owned up to them..don't be in a rush to be before your time..(don't try to be all grown up so fast..enjoy being a teenager).. she amazes me sometimes with the things she says... I see so much maturity in her in some ways and in others... not mature enough... I believe the next 8 weeks is going to close that gap....guess it's time to wake her up... feeling really good about all this....
