Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

So, in about 2 1/2 hours we will take our son to Meps and then he will fly out tomorrow for GL. I am on an emotional roller coaster but with the support of my friends and family I will get through this.

My guy leaves on the much awaited 1/19. Yesterday was my melt-down day, today I think I can be strong. What breaks my heart is the 2 year old; she doesn't understand will be gone for awhile

Oh My! I do not think I have given this advice to our newbies; The best place to cry is the shower AND it is OK to cry at traffic lights! ~ : ) ~ kk

torib Monday the 11th or Tuesday the 12th? We were chatting at lunch today and most of us got our kid-in-a-box in about a week after arrival. Our form letters came about two weeks after arrival. You should call the recruiter on Monday - they will give you the address in the database. BC is 7.5 to 9 weeks. It is based in how long it takes to fill a division. fyi...they start with 88 SR per division. Can you imagine how busy they are with 6 to 14 divisions and a count of 88 SRs per division? You will know more this week : ) ~ kk

Hi Chris in MI. Sounds like we have a lot in common. I've been writing Ashley everyday about the little things like what Ella(her daughter) is doing. I even have Ella draw her pictures and doodles. I also received my box Friday, I thought Wow that was quick. I opened the box as quick as I could hoping to get a little note. See what she got to keep and what she had to send back. Pretty much everything came back. I was also in bootcamp in Orlando back in '85, not a care in the world and had no idea what to expect. Bootcamp seemed to go by quick and I think our kids will have more things to have to cover because of technology and the war, terrorism. I don't know. I think the hardest thing for Ashley will be laptop and cell phone withdrawals!! lol. She is always on those two things. No wonder Ella knows how to use both at only 2! I want to send her pictures too. Putting them in the letter is a great idea. I also fill her in on all the latest celebrity gossip and her favorite tv shows. I wonder if our girls are in the same ship/div, they might be.

We had eleven (11) attendees at our monthly N4Ms luncheon today; moms, sisters, grandmothers, and one Recruiter. We had a good time. In this group we had a range of 2 DEP moms to a ten (10) year Navy Mom! It is great to share our stories and experiences. I hope you all join your state group and start or attend events in your area. We are a proud group : ) ~ kk

JD's Mom ~ The stamps are not returned in the box. My son had his book of stamps in the back of his little black address book - I wonder who put them there. : )
