Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I know the cell phone will come back..as with everything else she leaves with on her back and person. Phone card is on the list for today... stamps will be returned so won't be buying them... recruiter suggest to get the things we got... and if it all comes back.. I won't have to buy any travel size anything for my trip for PIR.... recomended to take the cell phone... 3 hr waiting at the airport and can use it until she gets on base. Not prior military... just come from hard and good stock and a realist. Not worried about her at all. She's in the hands of the best..(next to her Momma of course). what's there to worry about? I'm looking at the prize... we all didn't get where we are today without years of hard work... time management... dicipline.. planning and dedication..which has taken some of us a life time to achive... our children... spouses... who chose military... learn a life time of achivement in a few short weeks... I have nothing but respect... admiration and pride. I'm STOKED!

JD's Mom she will not be able to keep her cell phone, and all the stuff you went to buy will more than likely come back in her box. The only thing my son got to keep was his wallet. Also, send her with a phone card, you will be glad you did. Also, you will be wanting to get stamps that she can put them in her wallet. You will receive a short call from her when she gets to the RTC and then you will get her box and then the form letter.

MamaBear.... her recruiter told her this week. Also said things could change... so I am just going to go with the flow and see what happens... which is hard to do when you want to plan ahead ...flights...rooms... car rental... and can't stand not being able to "plan"!

Well this is my son's last weekend as a civilian! He is sleeping alot, watching movies but is continuing to workout everyday. I am ready myself just to get on with it and get to the point of being able to write letters. The recruiter said is he most likely grad and go so we will probably visit him in florida instead graduation.

JD's Mom ~ How do you know she will be a Grad-N-Go already?

Hi everyone. more than 1 January group. so if you're in both.. I copied an pasted....LOL.. haven't been here in over a week and haven't been following posts...I see that some of your loved ones have left already. My daughter leaves on Monday. I am still in "glad" mode and hope that I can continue to be there. I've been thinking a lot about why I don't have any heavy feelings about my daughter's leaving. I think what helps ... is the reason for her decision. We went shopping yesterday to get the things she'll need. We talked a bit about being tired, tested and pushed to the limits. That the first couple of weeks are going to be the worst of it.... to push on and keep her eye on the prize. She doesn't want to know about anything I learn in here... she just wants to go and deal with it when she gets there. I told her to NOT worry about calling me. Write when she can... to concentrate on what she has to do and nothing else. We can communicate in letters and if I don't hear from her or the Navy.... that I won't be angry or disappointed... that no news is good news. She will take her cell phone with her and call me when she lands in Chicago.. which will be on Tuesday..although she leaves the house Monday evening.. with it being a Holiday.. they will finish processing her Tuesday and off she goes! I am still not worried about the box... it tells me she made it that far. I don't worry about getting the call... because is assurance she's working her plan or that they are working her butt off and no time to call. Don't worry about what's going on at "home"...nothing will be different from when you left. Friends are back at college doing their thing.... now it's time to do yours. Look at the possibilites that are ahead and forge forward. Appears she will be a Grad and Go... so we'll have only Graduation day to spend together and I'm cool with that too.... I am so relaxed about all of this...so I'll pray for peace and blessings for all of us in here and for those that are having a hard time...remember why they made the decision they made....try not to feel the lonliness of them not being here...hold on the the end result and not the moment. Wait patiently for the call and don't worry if you don't get one right away... the motto is "no news is good news".... remember that the with every step (box..call...letter) they are all getting closer to their goal. When BC is over is when they will begin a new journey... a new life and a new purpose... of which all of us will reap the benefits of in one way or another. We all have different reasons for this journey.....hold on to that... BC will be over before you know it!

I know what you mean. I was thinking that maybe we will get a letter on the 20th or 21st. They can write on Sunday and mail on Tuesday. I forgot about Monday being a holiday.
