Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I dont know about a SSN# but there should be a SR before their last name (Sailor recruit) then Ship# and then Division

I am so frustrated- My son left 5 days ago and they still dont have him in the computer with an address. I see some kids parents are getting their addresses the next day. I am probably driving his recruiter crazy calling her, but she says he is there but doesnt see his address yet.

Some N4Ms have had different experiences. The following are our (SR and Mom) experiences the following topics:

mail ~ My son's mail was not held. He was actually the first in the division and the first in the division to receive a letter. He received every letter within three days of my postmark. In the 9 weeks, he had one letter that was somehow misplaced and then delivered. If you use the Recruiters' addresses to mail your first couple of letters, until you get the form letter with the official address - the SR will still get it. Just use the proper address once you receive it. They are encouraged to write. I do not feel, nor did other Moms within our division every state their concerns of mail being held as a break down tactic. I know of one SR that experienced a delay, as the mail sorters must not have had his correct division. ~ kk

phone calls ~ Some say they are earned. I feel most are scheduled. They do get extra calls or extra minutes for achievements - like winning the Captain's Cup. Our first lengthy call was on a Monday evening and lasted about 40 minutes. Our next 2 calls were on a weekend afternoon. Our Sailor call was, as you will experience, the morning after Battle Stations 21. ~ kk

I just reposted this as a reply to a question on the Boot Camp site. I thought you may be interested, as you will read about it in your SRs' letters ~ “Hell Week” – Marlinspike (ship stuff and “fun stuff like line handling”, etc.), PFA, Personal Inspection, Weapons Turnover Inspection, Zone Inspection, Live Fire Range, and usually the last day is Drill inspection, uniform tailoring, and picture taking. I do not know why they call it "hell week." My son called it fun stuff! I feel it beings it all together for them too.

See ~ eventually life gets better in BC. This is usually after the 4th week, as they all know what is expected of them and fall into a tight schedule. ~ kk

Hello everyone,
My son, Dereck also left on the 3rd. It has been a hard few days. I have written a letter every evening and one every morning... this is soooo hard....

monica q ~ Nope! I think that is an incorrect posting on someone's page. They get mail Monday through Saturday - no Sundays & Holidays. They send a division SR to stand in line and pick up the division's mail. The RDCs glance and feel the envelopes. The SRs open many in front of them. They do not want anything with sexual content, distasteful, etc. I tell everyone be creative. ClipArt is free! Your SR will be printing everything! So I also printed and slashed my zeros. I carried my writing notebook with me all the time. : ) ~kk

Marie (Jay's mom) ~ I can tell you from experience; the first 7.5 to 9 weeks are NOT like sending him off to college! Remember, be the best actress ever! Be proud and show it : ) ~ kk

monica q ~ Mail is picked up by an assigned SR in each division every day but Sunday. In the beginning they get to write on Sunday and holidays. This may increase. My son would look at his post marks. he usually received his letters within 3 days of my postmark. make sure you are using white envelopes, no scents, drawings, or stickers on the outside. No No on the musical cards. ~ kk

monica q ~ My phone call was about 15 seconds on 9/21/2009 at approximately 10:14PM EST. Remember to join the PIR group (date) and the Division group once you get your form letter. The divisions do not run the same schedule - so spending time with N4M members from the same division lets you have a better idea of experiences, time frame for telephone calls, etc. ~ kk

JessicaB (ship10/Div.68) ~ Why would they join another "another" January boot camp group" The other groups, i.e. PIR date and/or Division number are either started by a "page" or a discussion. I am not clear as to the advantage. ~ kk
