Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

For all of the N4M members with family leaving for BC soon - Now is the time to be the best actors and actresses ever. I know this is hard. The best thing you can do is send them off with proud faces. During boot camp, the letters need to be so positive, the phone calls (few and far between) need a proud mom voice on the other end, and stress how proud you are of them in every letter, card, and phone call. The day my son left for GL RTC, I turned from the airport security gate and gasped for air. The remainder of the day, I was a total zombie. This is so hard! You can do it too! ~ kk

hallmom ~ One of my New Year's resolutions was to clean out and organize my sock drawers - yes I have 2 and they were so full they would not close! lol I organized all of the colored socks (pattern & plain). I asked Norah, our dog to sort the white ones. Well - while I am busy on the N4Ms site I hear loud snoring. Yes! She is sleeping on my white socks! I hope this lightened your stress : ) ~ kk

hallmom ~ Tell him to get a lot of sleep before he leaves and eat a lot! He will probably have a delay in meals after O'Hare and be awake for many hours once he lands. ~ kk

hallmom ~ Do you live near the airport? Does your son want you to go?

dildraa ~ You will have many good days and many not-so-good days. I call this the boot camp roller coaster. Every week the days will get better. Your waves of uncertainty get shorter. You must stay busy! Did you join your state group? I truly enjoy meeting with my state group once a month for lunch. So much to share! I tell all; The best place to cry is in the shower AND it is OK to cry at traffic lights! ~ worked for me : )

Start your letters the day your son leaves. Be creative and make your own cards - ClipArt is free! I created a card that caused loud laughter. It cost my son 100 jumping jacks. He stated, "It was worth it Mom! Keep them coming."

Do not forget to join your PIR group after receiving the form letter. I also started a division group so we could share similar events. ~ kk

Before they get on the GL RTC buses ~ When it is time to leave O'Hare and depart for BC, they are allowed to donate items to the USO. The items would be pens, notebooks, candy, snacks, etc. If they do not donate it, it is thrown in the trash. These items do not make it to "the box." Target has 99 cent items (small size deodorant, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, etc.) that work perfectly for the trip to the hotel. My son gave us his small duffel bag with his change of clothes, etc. when he left MEPS. He did not want to pay the added expense for shipping more than he needed to in "the box." ~ kk

The hotel the evening/night before the last MEPS visit ~ Hello N4M members! Each Recruiter runs his ship a bit differently. Some Recruiters like to, and they offer to, pickup the Recruit(s) at their home the evening before their last trip to MEPS before leaving for BC. They deliver them to the hotel, where many other Recruit(s) (even Marines, Air Force, Army, etc.) are spending the night. The plan is to have all the Recruits ready to depart early in the morning - a bus will pick them up and take them to MEPS. To my knowledge, they are usually awake and showering by 4:30 AM, and then on to breakfast - the bus picks them up not long after. Once they get to MEPS, they start the interviewing, physical, and more paperwork process. Some Recruiters give the Recruit the option of having their family drop them at the hotel - which is what we did. You are allowed to go to MEPS. I arrived at 7:30 AM : ). Our location had a designated waiting area - where the Recruits met their family members throughout the morning.

When it is time to go to the airport, you can follow. ~ kk

At the airport ~ Most airports will allow immediate family members to go through security and wait with their recruit to board their plane to O'Hare. Check with your airport. Some allow 3 - 4 immediate family members, with proper ID, and must adhere to the same security checks as the passengers. Check your airport website to get the proper information before the day of departure. Note: This is for active military - with orders - holding a ticket paid for by the military! ~ kk

FYI...each division, when full has 88 SRs. Some divisions are both male and female (usually 44 + 44). Some divisions are all male.
