Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

SusanBRN, read, read, read. This site is full of information. So far I haven't had a question that couldn't be answered by pages on this site.
Mine leaves January 7th.

Hi everyone. Happy New Year. My son is leaving for RTC Jan 6. Does anyone have any advice?

One bit of good advice I saw on here was to not to miss them while they're still here.  Enjoy your time and keep a stiff upper lip.  They're struggling with their own internal battles too.  It's a good path for our kids. I know I need to keep reminding myself of that. :)

@hearthaven- Thanks for the info and the kind words.  Yes, letting our babies go is definitely heart-wrenching.  My boy is my one and only.  I suppose it isn't easy for anyone...but I'm too YOUNG to be an empty nester! LOL.

@lakeview-  I can't help you with the phone question, but I can totally relate to how you feel about your son leaving.  My son doesn't want to talk about leaving either.  He's just enjoying the time he has left and trying to stay focused.  I can only hope that I've given him what he needs as he goes off on his own soon.  All I know is it all happened WAY too fast!  On the bright side, if he was sitting home doing nothing...I'd be pulling my hair out! :)  Time to let 'em fly, mommas.  They'll be fine and so will we!

Thank you adpsmom for your response!

@lakeview - can't help you with the phone, but just wanted to send hugs your way (((HUGS))). I am sorry you are experiencing this. My son claims to not be nervous at all, and for the most part I believe him. There has to be a little apprehension though. If he were showing signs of second guessing his decision or extreme nervousness, I would so much more of a wreck than I already am! Sending prayers your way.

Can anyone help me out?  I'm really new to all this and I just got a smart phone.  I can see all the navy4moms comments on my phone but I can't reply from my phone.  How do I do it?  I always have to go to my laptop.

My son was with me last night and I made him so upset.  He doesn't want me talking about anything to do with the Navy.  He said he is already nervous.  Any othe moms experiences this?

RhondaW:

We are going to follow recruiter and our son down to Charlotte on Monday afternoon.  Son will check into hotel and then we will take him until 10pm curfew to hang out with us and other family who lives in Charlotte. We will go to MEPs at 8am for his swearing in. Then we will either go to the airport to wait for him there or follow the bus from MEPs over to airport.  We are REALLY hoping to be able to get a gate pass to wait with him at the gate but we won't know if we can or not until we actually get to the airport and talk to the airline folks.  Otherwise, I guess we'll have to say goodbye before he goes through security.  Really, really hoping for that gate pass.  Want as much time with him as possible!!!!!

C'sProudMomma:

I assure you you're not the only one! So many emotions tied in with letting our babies go and grow up even when we know this is what they want, their dream, what is best for them.  No matter how proud we are of them, it's still  unbelievably hard to give them their wings.  No one ever warned me about how hard this was going to be! (In three and a half years, our triplets will be graduating from high school and heading off to college or wherever their dreams take them.  I can't imagine how it's going to be to have three leave at once! But our son who's leaving next week is our oldest and first one to leave home which I'm sure makes this all the more difficult. I don't know.  I don't like it! lol).

If your son's ship date is the 21st, then yes, he will probably be going to MEPs on the afternoon/evening of the 20th and stay at hotel there and then get up super early on the morning of the 21st to go to MEPs for processing and swearing in, etc.
