I have seen conflicting info on here as to how many guests get to go PIR. Is it 3 or 4?
Hello L,
I believe it's normally 4 per family at PIR. But sometimes when they have a large number of recruits going through Boot Camp and have to add an extra ship, they have to compensate and lower the number of guests per recruit because only a certain number of guests are allowed to PIR in total.
Maureen and Andy
It is 4 if the TG has 12 divisions or less and 3 if there are 13 divisions or more. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v14Mar2013.pdf and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp. It is important to talk with your future Sailor about the 3 people who he absolutely wants to be there and the other person he will put down is he gets to invite 4. Everyone over the age of 2 must be on the Access List to attend PIR.
Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC, for other things that you need to be talking about.
Hi Maureen,
My son's date is 7/30 - maybe he'll end up in the class with your daughter! The time is going so quickly....I am happy for my son, but will miss him while he's in boot camp and we won't be able to communicate!
L.
Hello L,
Nice to hear from you! Yeah, I don't know how the different dates (when so close together) will work out. It would be nice if our kids (sons) could be on the same ship together.
Three months... wow... I don't know who is going to handle this better, me or my husband.
All in all though, this part is only 8-weeks, and after that when they are in A school, they will have a multitude of ways to communicate with us on a daily basis - texting, email, cell phones, Facebook, video conferencing, letters, etc. And like my husband Andy says, that's a lot more than when he was in the service. Back then, all he had to communicate with were letters and phone calls.

I feel the same way. I will be fine with A school because we can text and email. It's the lack of communication that bothers me. A call here or there, which I hope I don't somehow miss (my cell phone will be sewn into my bra LOL) just isn't enough! If we at least could get a call every Tuesday or whatever --- you know, some kind of regularly scheduled call.
Where is your son doing A-school? Mine is staying in Great Lakes for A-school.
L.
I see you have joined Great Lakes A School Q&A; you may also want to join GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. There are no groups specifically for EN, but you can check out Engineers, Snipe Moms(enginers), and/or Snipe Moms.

Hi! I just DEP'd in today as an IC with the departure date of July 29th. I'm from CA and will be leaving out of San Jose. I'll let you know if I'll be able to give up one of my guest passes for your family. So far there are only three people on my list - my parents and my husband.
Hello Purple,
Thanks! We'll watch for your next post!
