I am new to this site and so happy I found it!  My son leaves for GL on July 29th and I have mixed emotions but I am so proud of him.  Just looking for other moms/family going through the same thing.  It is always nice to know you are not alone!

I'm so sorry you didn't get a call yet... I hope they let him call soon.  I can't believe they would take that opportunity away so it may just be delayed.  Look for his box too and let us know when that arrives.  My son's hasn't but I know maureenwithfive said her son's box arrived already.  Maybe there will be a note in there for you?  You are all in my thoughts today... I have had a hard day with it - cried three times already!  I know it comes and goes and I expect it every so often so all will be ok.  Hope you are all doing good and hanging in there!

Stay tough AZNavyMom!  We're all here to support you in every shape and form!

And yes, it is possible to get a note in the box...

Our sailor must have grabbed an extra blank order form (for his clothing allotment) and wrote a note on the back side of the form, "Hi I love you and miss you!" and hid it in the box we received.

He also wrote a note on one of the flaps of the box before he shut it and taped it up.

He's always been the resourceful one!

Here's hoping for a phone call real soon!

So sorry that he hasn't called!  Hopefully you will get a letter from him soon!

Hi AZNavymom,

My daughter left on Tuesday and I've been all over the internet educating myself anyway I can about bootcamp (in between the uncontrollable outbursts of tears) and everything she'll be experiencing. Hoping to make our conversations easier if I know ahead of time what she's referring to when she's talking to me or writing me.

Anyhow...I read somewhere that if your SR did not get a chance to call when they arrived, usually they will be given an opportunity over the weekend. They even went as far as to say that some SR's lie and say they didn't get to call home just so they can call again, even though it's the same scripted call.

Hope you get to hear from your SR soon.

Thanks Shanon, that's good to hear!!! He didn't call his girlfriend either, and I know he wouldn't skip that call if he didn't have to LOL. I'll just have to hang in there!

Do any of you know if they have a co-ed boot camp, or do they segregate?  So far, I think I'm the only mom with a daughter in this discussion?

Females may be in an all female division (there is one in each TG now) or an integrated (containing both males and females) division. An integrated division will have an integrated division as a brother division and the males of the two divisions share a compartment and the females of the the two divisions share a compartment on a different floor of the ship. The all female division is the sister division to an all male division that is it's brother division. Regardless of whether your SR is in an all female division or an integrated division, she will train with the males in the brother division/s. See Ship/Division--How it Works within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

There are videos of bootcamp and I got to it through this navyformoms site. It was months ago, so I can't remember how I found the link, sorry! But it showed a group actually going through that first day of processing and then there were videos of other days, too. It was very interesting. Maybe someone here can give you that link. The video I saw showed them mixed males/females, though I'd imagine they sleep in different areas. I think it would be harder for me with a daughter than a son. I don't have a daughter, but I think I'd worry more though I can't exactly explain why!

There are links to videos within Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). Yes, the males and females sleep in different compartments and even on different floors on the Ship.

My daughter left on July 29th-she got married a month ago. So her husband got "the phone call" and that's fine! He'll get the box, but what I'm waiting for is her address so her dad and I can write to her!! I'm so proud, I think the challenge and team building will be so good for her, besides the fact she's serving the best darn country in the world! Go Navy!

So you know what we are all going through then... You should be very proud of your daughter!  Keep us all posted.  I still haven't received my son's box so it is making me nervous... :(

My daughter arrived on Tuesday as well Lori. =)
