I've been told that it's quality not quantity that matters. Make the time you spend with him memorable by doing things you both enjoy. Then while he's away you will have those special times to think about. I have been tagging along with my daughter when she runs errands and when she brings her dog to the dog park - things she has to do anyway now I am doing with her. My way of getting time with her without interfering with her time with her friends.
JordanMom, my son leaves 8 July also, tomorrow will be 1 month left. It scares me how fast time is flying by and I totally understand wanting to spend as much time with your son as possible. My son is still working part-time & I work 2 jobs so, it's tough sometimes to find time. We are going on a family vacation to Orlando/Disney later this week. I am so excited to spend 2 weeks of quality time with him and our family. I'm sorry your son isn't making the time for you...maybe he doesn't realize how you feel and that you want to spend good 1 on 1 time with him? And honestly, I have 4 kids....at this age mom & dad usually are not a priority (or at least w/ mine we weren't ). Keep your chin up, be proud and let your son know how your feeling NOW while you still have a month left. Have a great day.
Mine leaves the next day on the 9th. I cannot believe she's about to be gone for four years....it's mind boggling. :)
My son also leaves on July 8th and I've already had a couple of teary moments. One at church when he was singing with his ensemble. It made me realize that I won't have many more chances to hear him sing solos in church. Another time I got teary was when I was listening to a song on the radio but that was a joyful song. I am so very proud of my son always. However, my son is also spending most of his time on video games or visiting friends and playing video games (lol). I have been encouraging him to get out and run and do his push ups and sit-ups so that he will be physically prepared. I made flash cards to help him prepare for the PQS test at basic. That's all any of us can do right now really. Prepare them for their future and love them always.
Hello Jordan's mom and others who will arrive July 8. I am Philip's mom and he leaves Roanoke, VA July 6...I believe he will fly out from MEPs July 7, so maybe that puts him in the July 8 group? Philip is in the reserves and will be an IS (Intelligence Specialist)....are there any other IS Reserves out there for the July 8 date?
Thanks
13 days till mine leaves on July 9! She's taken to TV series marathons on Netflix. Guess that's her way of escaping and coping. I'm having to drive home the studying idea, forcing her to get all her things memorized. Like high school all over again. LOL.
13 days....I'm still breathing. You?
My son arrived at Great Lakes July 8th. Besides leaving, I think the hardest thing was receiving his box. I can't wait to receive my first letter. I too have letters ready to mail. From what I am being told, letters are like gold. His leaving was harder than I thought it would be. I have another son leaving Feb 4th and he will be attending the Nukes programs. I am sure I will be a mess then too! So glad we have each other for support and get info. thanks friends!!!
