Hey, Jenideer,
My daughter was still at the airport in Chicago an hour ago. We are from Texas, but she left from Shrevport, LA this morning.
There are some very nice moms on here whose child left this week. We have already been leaning on each other and crying together.
Hi Sparkyjo, well Nick called me the 10 sec cant talk call said it was very serious, they were already yelling at people but he was fine and would not be sending his clothes home just the info packet. He called me 10:10 our Oregon time, 12:10 Chicago time. Rather nervous. What job did your daughter sign up for? Nick is going to be a pak seaman, he just didnt know what he wanted just to travel and be on a ship. I think he can change if there are other jobs open after PIR. We have been waiting for him to go almost a year. Can hardly believe he is already there.
I got the "call" at 7:45 PM (not military time). She signed up as Hull Technician. I guess we'll wait and see on that.
Be of good cheer. I will be thinking of all the week of July 23rd moms.
Don't give up. My daughter got to Chicago about 1:30 today, and I didn't get the call until 7:45.
thanks angel, I will try to figure out how to friend you, pretty new to this site so just figuring it out. Sounds like maybe our kids and Whitneys Mom's daugther could have come in at the same time.
I am anxious but Nick has traveled in some pretty hard spots and makes friends easy so I know he will be ok, it s just me who is worried. :)
My daughter arrived then as well. We are from Vancouver, WA. Got the call about 10:07 pm. It was quite sobering when she said she would call me in 2-3 weeks. Yikes! It is really happening now.
Hi sounds like maybe they flew together, lets keep in touch maybe they will end up meeting or have met. Nick is super out going and gets to know everyone right away.
I grew up in Vancouver, My nephrew is Albert Angelo do you know him? My sister still lives there. We are down in Salem now.
Can I friend you?
thanks Jenifer
Hey Jenifer-
My son arrived at bootcamp on the 25th with about 50 kids he said. When he called, he said the woman processing him said he could talk with me for 1 minute rather than the alotted 30 seconds and we were both so relieved. She even yelled into the phone "Hi mom" and "Bye mom" and he said she told him in about 2 weeks they usually get another phone call. He sounded good, a little nervous but said it looked like a really big high school and so far everyone was nice. His friend just graduated bootcamp a week before our son went in, and told us all its like a 4 star hotel with angry employees. I dont know why, but that seemed to help me feel better about it! He is our oldest, and our biggest baby - so this is a very difficult time for us as a family. Being on this site helps in so many ways, because you are surrounded by people (moms) who are going through and have been through everything your feeling at the moment. Hang in there, and talk when you need to. Who knows, maybe we will meet at PIR!
thanks so much that is nice, Nick sounded stressed, said they were already yelling, he's pretty tough so I think he'll be fine, now me.......:)
My adpoted daughter ( good friend of my two sons - who are already active Navy ) reported to Great Lakes last night around 9pm. It is neat to be involved yet again and not balling my eyes out. Boot camp is tough on the SR's but also tough on the ones they leave at home. Stay strong it really goes fast..
