Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello sailor moms & dads! My son leaves for boot camp on July 20th. I've been a member of this site for months but only now posting. I didn't want to think too much about my son leaving...so proud though! I think the night before he leaves will be the worst but I don't want him to worry about his mom! In the wee hours of the morning when I suddenly wake up thinking about my son leaving I ask myself, "did I prepare him for this journey? Will he remember all the things I taught him and keep his faith especially when he feels scared?" I hope so.

If you've done even a fraction of the things you mentioned Gummybear, you've sent him forward with more tools than most kids get. Give yourself a pat on the back.  Think of all the good times past, the good times now, and remember the best is yet to come.  You tell him that and walk the talk yourself and you'll both be fine.   I've asked those questions of myself every night when I got to bed- not just about Navy prep but life prep.  You just giving a darn and going as far as being a member of this site makes me think you did pretty good.  Just promise me you'll encourage him to take advantage of every opportunity, save a big chunk of his earnings, appreciate the countries he will visit, do his best even if he's surrounded by slackers, volunteer via the base Chaplain and MWR programs- whether in A school or out in the Fleet- few things help a person overcome bad times like giving of yourself- in the local community, underprivileged kids, the local environment, animal shelters, beautification projects, and the like.   It tells his peers and commanding officers a LOT about his character, too.

Thank you so much for your kind and wise words. I will remember them.
