I saw Geckostorms post in my email but couldn't find the thread to reply on. My son shipped on July 1. He is my second child (I have three) though my first military kid. The emotions are normal. I've been been choking back the lump and the tears, though letting them flow is fine too. My personal response (learned this with my first one leaving) is pouring myself into the things that need to be done and the people that are still home and praying for the one that is gone. We all deal with it a little differently. <hugs>

On a very positive note, we got my son's form letter today! So glad! His PIR date is 8/28. And now I have his address....so I am going to go write him now and mail a letter today! :)

I've let ellen and FTLW know that form letters have been received for the 08/28/2015 PIR date.  Keep checking PIR 08/28/2015 TG 42 and join when it is up.

Ok...thanks!
That's funny DianaLynn.....I couldn't find the thread either. My son left on July 1st, as well. Our stories are similar. I have 3 kids with my middle son off to the Navy. We've been preparing for this, but nothing does. My brother just retired from the Navy after 20 years. I thought worrying about him and missing him was hard.....nothing lime the emotions I have now.

Glad you got your letter....I'm still waiting....maybe it will be waiting for me when I get home from work. What ship/division is your son in?

turtlegirl, check your My Page.

Where are you all located?  I am not sure who my son would have sent the letter to, either myself or his father!  I hope me, as his dad is gone on vacation until Saturday and I want to send letters as soon as possible!  I just texted my husband to check the mail as SOON as he gets home, my anxiety level is high :)

My daughter went on July 1 to BC. You will have me camping the mailbox today! =)
I live in the Chicagoland area. We got my son's box on Monday, then the letter today. If yours takes a little longer to get to you, know though that it's on its way!

We live in Chicgoland and did not get letter today, but got box last Friday.  I am thinking he may have sent form letter to his fathers house in MO :(  Keep on waiting.  I'm emotional today.

We haven't gotten our form letter yet but I am comforted to know soon. I miss my girl but I know this is what her hear was on
My son's ship date was July 1st. We've been told his PIR is Sept 4th. Is there anyone else who had a sailor ship on July 1st that has this later PIR? We're a little disheartened.

Keep checking PIR 09/04/2015 TG 43 (clickable link) and join when it is up later tonight or tomorrow.

Just because we say that PIR is most likely on the ninth Friday after arrival does not mean it will be. Some will have 8 Fridays and some will have 10 Fridays if they have to wait for others to arrive to fill the division. Ten Fridays happens this time of year due to the large number of recruits who ship in the summer.
