Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I just got a letter that I didn't expect to get!!  My daughter left last week, shipped 7/9, and I just got a letter from her dated 7/10, talking about their first full day and that she was tired but she liked it and lights out was at 8pm so she was writing instead of sleeping because she couldn't go to sleep that early..... and the shock of communal showers with 9 other women...lol.  It was wonderful, but we haven't even received the form letter with her permanent address, so I was shocked to get this!  Anyone else receive an early letter?

I have not received the form letter yet, but got an actual letter from my daughter today! She arrived on July 9th, but said her PIR will be Sept. 13. She is in a co-ed division. Ship 14 Div 335.

That always make me so sad when I see a soldier or sailor shipping out and don't have any family there to see them off.  :(

Good evening all! Knicky my daughter flew out from sacramento today as well. My family & were surprised that there were only 3 swearing in, my daughter & 2 guys (one guy didnt have family there) After they swore in, we were given less than 5 minutes to say our goodbyes. We also, wanted to say bye to the SR that didnt have family here but he went straight to the room to do paperwork. We've been able to talk to her which is great, my daugter & other 2 SRs arrived at the airport around 5pm Ca time and was told other SRs are still arriving, so they went to eat, until the shuttle came to pick them up. Now we're waiting for the "official call" Hang in there!

Went home crying, I insisted on holding it in till he left since I didn't want him to worry too much. Anyway, my hubby just flew out today (7/17). The people at MEPs were very accommodating to me and my daughter but I think a lot of it had to with the fact that we were the ONLY family that showed up that day. They gave my girl a stuffed animal, some cookies and milk, they even walked her around to see what the place looked like (though she couldn't go everywhere). I felt really bad for the handful of other guys whose families chose not to come (for various reasons they later told me about) so I made sure to tell them that even if their families don't seem proud now, they will be later and they will wish that they had come and I thanked them for volunteering to serve. My daughter took it the hardest, we got her a Build-a-Bear with his navy whites on for her to huggle while he is gone to RTC and she squeezed him all the way home. I was surprised to get a phone call just now...he wanted to call me because the people at the USO at the airport said they didn't think he would get to use his cellphone at all for his phone call so he called me and talked for a bit while waiting for the next leg of the journey to begin...they are all very tired and very hungry and want nothing more than to sleep but they were all so excited/anxious that none of them could sleep on the place and ended up just chatting. This will be my first night without him in years...kinda scary and I don't think I'll get any sleep tonight either!

Thanks SkaNavyMom Ship 3 Div 328. That makes sense and makes me feel a lot better, too!

Tammy - I wonder if it isn't natural to feel this way - you know they'll do great but the "what if's" can be relentless! My daughter keeps telling me that the Navy doesn't want them to fail! If they don't pass a test there will be another opportunity another test another route! I worry that I will get a phone call from BC saying she's out and then she would've turned down all these other opportunities! I have to keep telling myself what will be will be! Stay strong and positive! If that fails - pour yourself a large glass of wine!!! I have a feeling it's a bumpy ride - we might need it!! :0)
