Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

d2b2707, I asked my son if he wanted to do that before he went in.  He scoffed.  "Nope."  That was the end of that discussion.  I imagine if it interfers with him and its a concern for his job/secrecy, they'll make that very clear to him.  And of course he'd deactivate his account, without a second thought.  But, I'm just a mom...hey, what do I know?  lol

Lemonelephant, regarding social media; Facebook, Instagram, is it recommended that SRs deactivate their accounts? I know they won't be able to use social media while at BC but what about after, any policy about that?
Also, question about female hair... My daughter cut her hair the required length but on one side of her head, from the bottom of her ear to the back of neck, she had her hair shaved and has a design, is that acceptable? The length of her hair can cover the design, would you recommend that stay covered? The reason I ask is because the barber that did her hair posted a pic of it and a comment was left saying she would get a hard time for that. Any policy about that?
I don't remember seeing any posts about this but could have missed them. My daughter ships 7/17, so would b great to know, Thanks!

You can make your profile even more secure by changing your Privacy Settings to "Members" or, especially if you choose to post photos on your My Page or if your SR's contracted rating is in Special Ops or one of the Spooks ratings, to "Just My Friends". Number 3 of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) (clickable link) will tell you how to do that. Read that entire Page and make any changes you need to make.

With everyone using the web now, there is so much more info out there than there used to be. Some think we go a little overboard with the OPSEC and PERSEC on here, but I think we can never be too careful with our family (and we are all part of the Navy family now). It bothers me that some post so openly on the facebook sites, but the info available on the RTC's fB site and within this ste is invaluable and I wouldn't want to give it up. Remember, lurking is good.

@lemonelephant yes I've thought about it I will just try to connect while reading posts thanks my son doesn't even like me to post pics to FB lol!!! Thanks
Comment by lemonelephant on July 13, 2013 at 7:54pm

Some of us don't post any pics. Those with loved ones with contracts in Special Ops and Spook ratings should not post pics of their future Sailors or of themselves or others close to their future Sailors.

Comment by lemonelephant on July 13, 2013 at 7:52pm

Kelly, Once you have connected with others with loved ones in the same division, then it would be good to remove that from your Username.
