OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Every time you post, you are giving a clue to who your SR is and if your profile pic also contains his or her photo, then you have made it very easy to identify him or her. Go to OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) and read the info there and make any changes at the bottom that you need to. Note: If you make change number 1, you also need to make change number 2. Look at each of the numbers there and make any or all that you need to make.

Comment by lemonelephant on July 13, 2013 at 7:08pm: It doesn't usually happen in P-days, but, if needed, it could happen in any week in the first half of BC, usually in the first or second week of training though.The Navy only does dental work that is needed. The dentists at the RTC consider if there may be a problem in the future and remove one, two, three, or all four of the wisdom teeth if needed. If there is a question, they may indicate that the teeth are to be checked at "A" School and removed then if needed. They also may put off removal of wisdom teeth until later if there is dental work that needs to be taken care of first. Some may not need any wisdom teeth removed; my Sailor still has his wisdom teeth more than 4 1/2 years later. If it is determined that the recruit does need to have one or more wisdom teeth removed, this is scheduled at a time that will be the least disruptive to training and often several in the division have it done on the same day so they are recovering together. The recruits have 2 days SIQ and have someone who checks to see that the recruits are taking their pain meds and drinking plenty of water as directed. They then have at least one day of LLD and must be checked before returning to full training. We often hear that recruits have the wisdom teeth removed on Thursday or Friday, so they have the weekend to recover. This is similar to the recovery time given in the civilian world. They are well taken care of and there have been recruits who were happy to have the time to rest and others who didn't have to have the teeth removed who wished that they had once they saw how their shipmates were treated while they had to clean the head or do other jobs in the compartment and continue with PT. (Be sure to check the comments on your My Page.)

Comment by JV3 on July 13, 2013 at 6:57pm: My son left for boot camp on tues, 7/9. I got his box yesterday. I did feel sad when I opened it but thank God this website prepared me for it. I think I would have been really upset if I wasn't expecting it. It's hard not being able to talk to him and see how things are going. I am looking forward to the letter coming with his contact info and PIR date. I'm a little worried that he has had his wisdom teeth pulled. I told him to do it before he left but he never got around to it. Does anyone know when they usually take their wisdom teeth out?

Comment by lemonelephant on July 13, 2013 at 1:26pm: Sharla, people pay extra for weekend deliveries with FedEx. There have been some FedEx drivers who have delivered it if they had a delivery in the area even though it was scheduled for Monday, but that is very rare.

Comment by lemonelephant on July 13, 2013 at 1:20pm: Thelma, since your SR arrived last Wednesday, by counting 9 Fridays, it is very possible that he will have PIR on 08/30/2013. He could have PIR the week after if storms caused extras to be brought in and moved him to this week's TG.
