OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

now waiting for some noise in the house- so quiet and wishing for some laughter!!! man I sure miss my son.....

Comment by lemonelephant on July 5, 2013 at 2:23pm: Knicky, by counting 9 Fridays, the most likely PIR date will be 09/13/2013, but then know that it could be the week before, 09/06/2013, if he is one of the last to fill a division from the week before (that is more likely to happen for one arriving on a Monday or Tuesday than for one arriving on Wednesday as yours will) or the week after, 09/20/2013 (that happens when storms cause extra recruits to be shipped during the week). You will just have to wiat on the form letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

I know she must be feeling anxious as well but you would never know it. I just started praying that God would calm my anxious heart and hers as well, that is my prayer for the other moms out there as well. These days before she leaves are precious to me and I am enjoying having all three of my children around before she leaves.

Just had a wonderful evening of 4th of July fireworks with him and some friends! So proud of his decision to serve but my heart and mind are going crazy w/ emotions! I've been holding up ok lately but the closer we get to the 8th the harder it is to be strong. So thankful through the weeks us moms have this place to cry, vent and pray together for our sons and daughters! Happy 4th ya'll!

I understand the date could change but I would like to at least have some dates to wiggle with so I already have a room. Anyone know roughly what the date might be? Thank you!

Comment by lemonelephant on July 4, 2013 at 10:13pm: SamsMySailor, yes, you take those things with you--well, some of them anyway, but he cannot have them until he leaves the RTC and he gets to "A" School or the airport. What is his rating (job/specialty) going to be? Knowing that will help you to plan for PIR weekend. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend. Also, don't forget to check your My Page.

When we go to PIR do we bring clothes, computer, etc. for him to take to A School? Not sure how all that is going to work out. I mean eventually he'll want his stereo, TV, etc. won't he? Do we just make arrangements to get all his stuff to him after he has gotten to A School?

It's encouraging to watch the progression of the future sailors leaving and how well you Moms hold up and stay strong for your children. I know I will have strength at times and weakness at times. However, it's good to know that you all have survived already or are surviving and that our family too will get through when the time comes. I definitely agree that this is one of the best choices my son will make in his lifetime and I am truly proud of him.

Comment by Jackie on July 4, 2013 at 6:42pm: Hi everyone. well dropped britt off yesturday and got call last nite. she did text ke right before they got there. she said mom i got his ill be okay . which made me realize she is ready and her head is on. this was the hardest thing i ever did. hopefully next few weeka get easier. i am on vacation but not really enjoyimg it to much without britt.
