Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Just got a call from my son - he's getting ready to board the plane - said he will definitley give me a call when he lands.  Oh I'm going to miss that voice!

mmatthews - You are not nuts and this page proves it. It's harder than dropping a child off at college because you have no idea how long it will be until you talk to them. My son and I are very close and I am going to have a hard time with him gone. However, we need to keep in mind they are doing something they want to do. He has already told me that his call will be to me. Tell your son that if he can only make 1 call that Mom's have priority :)

Nancytysmom, I had a sunburn from camp a few weeks ago and had to come to my mom's to take her to an appointment and she looked at it and put vinegar on it and it relieved it some and it was much better the next day. Yes, it stings a little at first, but not for long.

Well, I just arrived home from MEPS. apparently for some reason her didn't have to do the swearing in today, but since we all came (Mom, dad, dreaded and brother) they took us back to privately for a formal swearing in ceremony, which was so kind. My husband thinks I'm nuts for feeling down, but he's nice about it at least.I don't know if he will be allowed two calls, one to his dad and one to me so I'm not Sue I will hear from him today put not.

Sharri - You are in Evansville IN? I am in Northern Kentucky - a couple miles from the airport.

I love the Christmas ornament idea!

My son's HS gave recognition to all the boys (all boys school) that received scholarship money. They also recognized the 3 (I should say) Young men that are going into the military. It was very emotional.  I just got back from the store and picked up a blue candle. I had not heard that before. Also, I made Christmas ornaments for each family who came to his Graduation/ Anchor's Aweigh party. I put the Navy Seal on one side and a prayer on the other. It read "In Honor of those who stand in harm's way and those who stay behind and pray". and his name. I put a card with it asking families to place it on their tree and remember all of young men and women serving in the military. My son goes to MEPS on the 15th and GL on the 16th.

I just read the information about the blue candle and am now inspired to get one for my home and for my desk at work.  I think I will look for some candles to give to friends and family that attend our Anchors Aweigh party as Ben's leave date draws near.  I will print a card explaining the significance and tie it to the candles for everyone to take.

I feel for all of you.  My son was originally supposed to leave July 1 but got changed to October 8.  I cried yesterday just thinking of what I would have been going though.  I can't imagine what it will be like in October.  Hopefully all of you will be out there telling me that you survived it.  I wish his high school would have acknowledged those going into the military at graduation, but they didn't.  They did mention the various colleges that students were going to be attending though.  Hang in there and let me know how you and your recruits are doing.  Sharri

Right there with all of you.  My son is at MEPS right now waiting to be put on a bus to the airport - he'll be in GL tonight.  I cried so much yesterday I think I ran out of tears.  The hardest part is not being able to talk to him whenever I want.  Now I just have to wait for the call tonight to let me know he got there okay.  He keeps telling me "I've got this mom, don't worry"
